Monday Morning...

Somehow, Black Friday sales have crept into Canada. Thing is, they aren't really sales, I've found. I'm in the market for a new camera. The cameras on sale are too high end for me! The one I have my eye on isn't on sale. Goggle Ads have been helpful in pointing this out for me. 😏

I am content with my camera. It's just wearing out. Aren't we all?! 😳 I shall keep looking.

We went through town to the dentist. I wanted to look at the memorial dedicated to the young man who was murdered in town. They have charged a 16-year-old girl with First Degree murder. She was charged with 2nd degree, but that was changed.
  • Manslaughter: murder without intent
  • 2nd degree: deliberate murder without planning
  • 1st degree: homicide with planning and intent

UPDATE: Murder of Reese Stanzel

A 16-year-old has pled guilty to murdering the 15-year-old in 2024. This is a relief for many, I am sure. The small community is still shaken.

After the horrific murders in B.C., I did some research. The Tumbler Ridge shooting is already fueling trans hate in Canada. There is a Wiki page devoted to Misinformation about violence by trans people

Despite Muskoka's Lake Effect Snow, we had precious little on the weekend. Bracebridge had 125 cm, Gravenhurst had 140 cm. The town just shut down. It took them all weekend to clear the cars and tow them to a parking lot, which I suppose they had to clear first! The main highway, #11, was just plain closed.

This is Gravenhurst!

We had barely a skiff of snow.

Power is still out for upwards of 20,000 homes according to Ontario Hydro. The section in the middle is covered by Elexicon Hydro, they have 2600 homes without power.  It's going to take another day or two.

I just have to celebrate Christmas work parties! JL and Caitlin went to his office party. Caitlin's dress was $20 thrifted! Isn't that a wonderful deal? They are great thrifters.

Have a great week, those not digging out!

December is nearly done!

It's been a month, this December month. Lots going on. I was so happy to get the sink done. Funnily enough, having found a licensed and insured contractor, RONA sent me a message from head office in California. They don't have a contractor in the area to install our sink. It's been months. I'd figured that out!

We've had several young people killed in vehicle incidents. It's been terrible for many families. I find it disturbing seeing these memorials. This one has grown. I wonder how the people feel who live across the street from where this incident occurred.

Dec.

It's been a month of weather! Rain (54 mm), snow (19 cm), sleet, graupel. Sometimes all in one day. We will have some snow, although we expect freezing drizzle.

Thank goodness for technology, when family is far away.

Cluny (8) sent me two photos! One is a diorama they made, and the other is their cat, Bernie.

Jesse sent a photo of Cluny in her panto costume. One can learn a lot about oneself by acting. With both parents being trained actors, she is having a blast. It is in her blood!

We drove through town. Do you think these streets, built in 1816, knew they'd be handling such trucks? There was talk of a ring road for years. The trucks get longer. Not so the width of the streets. Right now, Perth is arguing with a developer who want to bring in a housing development. It's hit the news. There is a month long hearing planned. We're not involved as we don't live in Perth, but I've been following it and noting timelines and articles. The latest was an editorial in the Ottawa Citizen, Ramble Dumbly has weighed in. What Ottawa residents have to do with it, I do not know. We teachers used to laugh at the columnist, as he never liked teachers, and is quite right wing.

When we were in Smiths Falls, I took a photo of this building. It is fascinating! It is on the edge of the river.

Cinnamon and I went walkies. There is some snow.

Sunday to Kingston Harbour

Another daytrip. It was a beautiful day, with the odd tree changing colour.  The clouds are still remnants of the recent hurricane. They dissipated. We had rain this morning, just a smidge.

There are lots of orchards open for apple picking! We didn't stop.

There are stands of sumac with amazing colours.

I saw some swans on a drive-by.

This church is 175 years old, which to some is fairly young, but we are a young country.

The city of Kingston

There are lots of students, soldiers, and lots of runners, especially on a Sunday.

This care puzzled me. We had the green, but they were turning on a red.

The Holiday Inn has a lovely patio. That was our destination.

As well as watching a grackle, there are lots of boats, as well. This is with my videocamera zoom lens.

Lunch

Kingston Harbour

We took a walk along the harbour, there were lots of cormorants, people and boats. We are nearing the end of the season.

The cormorants in the Kingston harbour.

I watched people, while JB took himself off for a non-dairy ice cream cone! He returned with a flourish.

On the road home

I love the restaurant. K-Pop Subsushi. 'Opening soon!' Korean Pop is quite popular, we've seen them on some of our music shows. It's a step up from Backstreet Boys. I'm not sure what it has to do with food, though! Right beside it, a restaurant that offers Indian Cuisine. This is our Canada. A melting pot. I love it! In Perth, we have a new restaurant that offers Lebanese food. Slow progress!

One wonders the stories this house could tell. I think it has had its day.

Then, there are the highway markers. This is Travis (2003 - 2015), who died in a car incident.

Community mourns tragic loss - Frontenac News

The accident took place at the junction of Road 38 and McIvor Road, just north of Hwy. 401. Travis's parents, Jamie and Leanne, were in the car with him. Leanne suffered a hip injury and broken ribs and Jamie was uninjured, but Travis's injuries were more serious and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He was taken off life support the next morning, after his organs were donated.

This is for rock girl!

Snug Harbour Resort, it's lovely! It's on Desert Lake. The river is beautiful.

We liked this gate. The thing is, it's pretty much useless, although maybe it's meant to prevent snow machines in winter!

The campers were pretty much gone! It's a shallow lake, with lots of fishing.

This is Canoe Lake. There were a few locals swimming, but pretty peaceful.

Home again, jiggety jig!
