Air traffic: here and there

I've been watching air space in Ukraine, and so has Flight Radar. <= This is an interesting article about the different planes and radars they are using.

Look, up in the sky!   military helicopter from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.

Meantime, the fires continue out west. Happily, the remnants of Hurricane Hilary are approaching B.C. and Alberta. There were 20,000 people evacuated in Yellowknife. The mayor, bless her heart, drove around looking for homeless people to get them on planes and evacuated.

Someone was tracking the planes carrying water to the fires. It is wonderful seeing so many people getting helped. 'Look for the helpers,' said Mr. Rogers.

✈ Things were flying!

Friday began with a bang. On several fronts. There was a lockdown in nearby Carleton Place. An emergency. Then there was an amber alert about a pair who were armed and on the run. That fizzled out. They posted a photo and named the pair. Hopefully more information is to come. It is good to know the alert system works!

Police later said they were wanted on warrants
 unrelated to this incident.

Things settled after they found and arrested the dude from our DNE township who stole a car. He was near the Beckwith Recreation Complex. We were there for the Beckwith Heritage Festival. They were giving wagon rides! This is what was noticed on radar.

Saturday morning, I went to Flight Radar, and found a Brockville Cessna having a good day.

Later on, I was watching the activity in the air. I noticed an Ornge Air helicopter off to an emergency. It was slowing, then flying lower, and curved back around and went back to the Ottawa Airport.

Turns out it was a car on fire. Thankfully our volunteer firefighters went at it.

I checked out what was happening in 🛫Ukraine. Not a good sign seeing the US Navy plane circling. Grateful to be here – not there. What an awful situation.

On a happier note, our statistics for influenza have been good. Masking and hand washing are good things!

Things got more exciting, as we were expecting our kids. More on that tomorrow!

Flight radar

It began high enough. I heard it fly over at noon. I grabbed a screen shot of the flight radar. One has to make a decision: do I grab my camera and run outside? I did not. As I watched it on the radar, I realized it just kept coming. I've seen it before.

It was an interesting path. By the end it was figure eights. Sander Geophysics is a company that does high-res airborne surveys for petroleum and mineral exploration, and geographical and environmental mapping. I was really curious!

They are supposed to stay above 1000'. They were close to that, but a bit worrisome.

I went outdoors and heard it coming. Nope, not this one!

Here it is. It came back again. By 2:35 it was a pain in the butt and I grabbed some photos.

Canadian Aviation laws say they should be minimum 1000' over built up areas. We're fairly rural, so maybe that's how they get away with it. My patience is shot, I guess.

My Christmas/birthday trail camera does not work. It is discouraging. I am so disappointed. I only have two working right now. We're going to drive into the city to return it, although I bought it online from Cabela's distribution centre out west, mine is sold out. Cabela's is owned by an American company. They usually have good service.

💻The poor kids are going to online school today. I feel badly for them. We shall all have to carry on. We still haven't exchanged Christmas present with our Ottawa family.

This is how we began the day, with deer hanging out on the lawn. It's a pretty sight.

Nutmeg was exhausted supervising squirrels at the bird feeder from the window.

Forest walkies

The season continue to unfold. On walkies yesterday, I checked out the wetland. There isn't a lot of water, but enough that I can begin to move the frogs out. Last count, 16, but they are tricky. You can see one under the log, below. I think I moved 22 one year. It a bit of exercise, and I need to find a good bucket, but that might be today's challenge.

I've bought me some pumpkins. I'm looking forward to those seeds!

I line them up on the fence, with orange ribbons. I like it!

Down to the forest. At the far trailcam was a doe. All by herself! She pretty much ignored me.

Here they are wandering off in the distance. It's so peaceful. deer

The mushrooms and toadstools continue to look amazing. I have to be careful where I walk. Critters have knocked them over, some have been nibbled. I don't want to pick any, I don't know them well enough. I'd rather have JB forage in the grocery store!

These are the Five Sisters. A clump of trees in a circle. In the second photo, below, you can see a patch of red maple.

The colours are so pretty, for now. I do enjoy them. Where trees have fallen, more light shines on the forest floor.
Cinnamon flung himself up the tree, then came home with me for a rest. Beside him is the tree the bear stripped of bark.

I've put up a couple of feeders. We will see how that unfolds.

The colours begin, the sumac beside the shed is so lovely. For now. The season is so short!

The coyote   visited the trailcam. It was a bit shy. I should have edited it more, but it returns at the end of the 30 seconds.

There were two does and a young 'un in the forest. doe and fawn

What is it? After dark, I heard a noise. I love me a good mystery. MVI_1156

Running to Flight Radar, I found out.

A bird or a plane?!
