It was an amazing weekend. Great to see the kids. JL went to Las Vegas for a few days for business and pleasure earlier in the week. It was 47 ℃ and the dry heat was horrible.
JL flew, with 2 buddies, and real pilots on a Sky Combat Ace Extreme flying event. The three men flew with three pilots in a two-person plane. It was epic. He showed us the footage. He came home Friday, then they came for a sleepover Saturday night.
He brought home a 'Close Eyes' for Caitlin.
Things are quieter here at the house. I'm watching the catterpigglies, as my mom used to call them. I have figured this one out. Yellow wooly bear moth! There is power in sticking together, I suppose.
Then there is this little fly!
oxomerus geminatus the Eastern Calligrapher,
a common species of syrphid fly
The sphinx moths have been out in the dark. I showed them to Jo before bed.
It may or may not be these who appear on the camera. I may never know. Maybe I'll try when the bugs lessen.
On the weekend, Caitlin and I sat out front and watched the hummingbird going to this flower. I told her that the bees were chasing the hummer away!
Giant Knapweed and a honey bee!
Lobelia siphilitica, the great blue lobelia, or blue cardinal flower. I bought a plant at a pop-up plant sale up highway #511, and it has spread to give me 9 plants.
That time of year: water lilies! Can you see froggie?! It must be Jeremiah.
Garbage is out. So are the deerflies. Another day begins.
It's been fun. I decorated the white pumpkin with turkey and barred owl feathers I'd collected.
The kids came over. It was raining and we did an afternoon PPV movie. Spider Man: Far From Home.
Caitlin noticed that this was the St. Pancras Clock building. They stayed here two nights when they were in England last year. It's an airBNB.
It was a great afternoon indoors! Everyone liked my terrarium. There was beer!
Hooper preferred outdoors.
I managed another huge turkey. I don't know what I was thinking, except that we were on our way into the city for JB's medical appointment, I wasn't sure how big I should get it, I wanted leftovers, and that was that.
It was a 20-lb. turkey. I had to clear the fridge to get it in.
Caitlin did stuffing, brought two pies and ice cream (apple and pumpkin), I did broccoli and roasted sweet potatoes. JL and Jos made gravy. Izzy and Mama made cranberry sauce.
Grampa Joe has come up with a new 'Close Eyes' ritual. This all arose when he bought himself a Shoeless Joe shirt. Shoeless Joe Jackson was a baseball player in the early 1900s. His shoes gave him blisters, and he took them off during the game. The name stuck.
Jackson, who played left field for most of his career, currently has the third-highest career batting average in major league history.[1] In 1911, Jackson hit for a .408 average. It is still the sixth-highest single-season total since 1901, which marked the beginning of the modern era for the sport. His average that year also set the record for batting average in a single season by a rookie.[2]Babe Ruth said that he modeled his hitting technique after Jackson's.[3]
You'll notice how tall Josee is getting! She's in gr. 7 now. Izzy is gr. 4.
The caps are a hoot! Great for trick-or-treating in the dark.
✅ELECTION43📈
Happily, The Candidate took time off for Thanksgiving!
Each election I’ve been in has had one city wide debate that stood out above all others. I think the Black Communities Debate about to start here at city hall is it.
Thank you @orianatweet and @akellerherzog for being here supporting! #elxn43pic.twitter.com/KmIRqrZsiQ
After they arrived, we had lunch. Then, off to the corn maze!
These are the soybeans!
They played a long time!
Back at home, Isabelle commented that Frosty was naked, and she dressed him for me. The whole process, apparently, was fun. Caitlin went down with her.
Hamburgers and hot dogs for dinner!
Sunday morning
Josephine has grown. She is nearly as tall as I am.
Josee cracked the eggs. Isabelle made scrambled eggs. Caitlin did toast. I did the bacon.
We planted 70 daffodil bulbs! Izzy was such a help.
