Graupel time!

I noticed this on the news, they were talking about the Canada Post strike. We've visited Nova Scotia.

We are getting into the cold weather! It was -5 ℃ Monday. Bbbbrrrrr. Nothing like Muskoka, in Central Ontario. Some are on Day 5 of power outages. Most of the homes have power back, but not all. There are still about 4000 homes to get reconnected. Thanks to all those who toil in the cold, and snow. York, Peel, Vaughn, and the Toronto airport all sent crews to help. The core of Gravenhurst is done.

We had graupel! Not ice, but sort of snow pellets.

A drive into town often generates conversation, property for sale!

2 acres for sale
$249,000

I noticed this strange little road going in. Then, a for sale sign.

I hope someone tells them that there is a lot of invasive phragmites here, which means it is wet off to the right.

The house that had a fire is finally coming along. This happened in Jan., 2023. I felt so badly for them, although I don't know who they are.

I am happily bird watching from the front window. The cardinals have been infrequent visitors.

They are so infrequent that I had to find an archive photo of the female cardinal.

Male downy woodpecker.

I hope you stay warm and dry. We've more snow on the way, they say. We may or may not leave the house today. Somebody is happy watching curling!

More snow today? I must ask Alexa. Note: she says, No, but 80% chance tomorrow. She also says, “Good morning, John,” when I ask. Sue does not say that.

I've never heard the word graupel. That female cardinal is a beauty.

We have a dusting here. Maybe two or three inches. Just enough to keep everything white. Tomorrow might be another story for us folks in E.Ontario if the weather guessers are right!
Our neighbours house burned on Christmas Eve last year. (Electrical fire) The insurance ordered the house rehabbed. They worked on it until about the middle of July. When we came back from vacation the house had been torn down. The new house went up a LOT faster than the reno's were going. (Other than having the old chimney wrapped up water tight NOTHING has been rectified from our chimney fire)

Brrr, that IS cold! 5 days without power, that is no fun. A warm shower will feel so good to them. Your cardinal pictures are so good, I don't think I've ever seen one in person.

It is sunny here and not windy so not a bad day. The birds are flitting around in the sunshine.

I think there is also graupel further in the west, I look at Yr.no. then weather for B C, then zoom into the further northern interior. The webcams are amazing, and I do hope those without power are managing to keep warm Down here a cool wind and maybe rain on the way.

Graupel is not something we see here.
Hooray for bird watching.
Stay warm.
