Mice friends and feathered, and furry friends

🐭 After the snow on Feb. 13, I noticed one set of tracks near Guinivere. The tracks lead from her, and across the the sidewalk. I went to the Crumbly Acres camera to see what I could see. Cinnamon likes to go in the garage with the door closed. He wouldn't come in last night, tail wagging as he focused on a mouse. We've deer mice indoors, one cat snagged one in the basement the other day.

It took me awhile to spot it! I scanned through about 2 dozen video segments to find it. In one clip there were no tracks, the next, there they were. The mouse was very fast. They are too fast for my Wingscapes birdcam. It doesn't seem to videotape at night, either. Who knew?!

A mouse jumped behind and in front of Guinivere. I repeated the same clip since mousie was quite fast. The first clip is at normal speed, the second slower by 50%, the 3rd is zoomed in.

💐 I really prefer the red, for a spot of colour indoors in a very white winter, but it is a beautiful plant.
It has an infestation of fruit flies in the soil. I put stones on top of the soil to block them but that didn't work. I know you are supposed to dilute dish soap 1:40 with water. I thought I'd be OK spraying it on the stones in the Amaryllis pot. Somehow I overshot, and hit my precious little Alyssum seedlings. I killed most of them. SIGH.

I ordered new plants for spring.  I also ordered toad lily, calla lily, Japanese bottlebrush, and I look forward to the new season. This one is called pigsqueak!

Cinnamon is such a hoot. They get so frustrated when they can't get at Woody Woodpecker, AKA the Cardinal, tapping on the window.

It was unusual, but I spotted a female cardinal chasing another female away! Usually it is Woody Woodpecker doing this with the other two males we see around.

The birds are busy.

I am going to marinate some meat overnight for Saturday's dinner. It is Family Day on Monday, a provincial holiday. Today is a PD day for our Ottawa grandies. The kids are coming for a sleepover tomorrow night. It is play time!

🌨 I shall have coffee and breakfast, then I've snow to shovel! After our big melt, I thought I'd switch out my header, but we're back to snow!  I'd washed the hardwood floor and planned to wash the kitchen and bathroom floors. We'll see what energy I have left after shoveling.

Cats enjoy mice so much...better than those little laser spots people use on their walls! A real smell helps of course, for them. No wonder they play with them! I'm impressed by all you do in household/outdoor chores! Sorry to hear about aphids that led to demise of the baby plants.

Shoveling is a hard task!

We had an ice - snow event that was not heavy or even concerning. I'm happy we didn't get that snow!

I can't wait to see some spring flowers...we are entering that time of the year where we look forward to spring right?

Beautiful flowers.

Wow! You cannot see the mouse move until it is slow slow motion! Very cool stuff!

I love seeing your Cardinal shots.

my friend Marley and I were talking about how we haven't had a single mouse in our houses this winter, despite being over run last year. We both have lazy cats so that isn't the answer to the question. We are over run with squirrels! Mr. Fisher is hanging around so I expect the population to decrease in short order.

How interesting about the mouse. I remember our cat (a ginger tom) bringing us little gifts like this when I was a kid. The video was fascinating. They move like a rocket. Sorry about the seeds, the amaryllis is beautiful though. Hope you were able to get rid of those pesky flies. Lovely to see your bird and always your kitties.

Well, with all that work you'll need a long weekend. The trouble is retired people don't get weekends off.
