🐻Trillium, Booboo, and Nutmeg

The trillium are popping out.  This is an old photo. They aren't nearly as big as this, this year. I'm afraid we're not getting enough rain around here.

Everything is greening up. The mosses are rich and lovely.

Nutmeg is doing some serious Meadow Vole hunting. The lawn is covered in tunnels. (P.S. She missed!)

Dock tales

I tracked Cinnamon coming down the path, over to the frog pond, and back up the path.

This is why I put the trailcam on the path. Trying to figure out where the bear came down the path.
When you go down to the woods today, especially at 3 p.m. This is the second visitation. It was here on the 17th, too.

🐻BEAR WATCH

April 22 – a small cub was reported on the road, SE of the lake. That's ~6 km away from us.

Consensus, by the experts, is that s/he is a yearling. I've not heard anything about a car incident, so someone might have taken out the mother. There are a lot of hunters around here.

It seemed to appreciate licking the bowl. I've been putting cracked corn in there for the nesting momma ducks. I'm stopping that practice now! I haven't seen it anywhere near the house. That's a good thing.

I would gladly send you some of our excess rain if I could!

Yeah, that cub looks to be rather too young to be separate from mum just yet; if I recall correctly, they are usually two years 'in family' before venturing off alone? Could the feral cat be a problem for N & C? YAM xx

Trail cams are so much fun. I only put mine out if I think the cabin has an unwanted guest. Cats are so much fun to watch, and then there's the cub. Where's mama? It looks pretty tiny. - Margy

Finding trillium on a spring walk in the woods is one of my favorite experiences.

Would the cats run home if they saw the cub or a bigger one? Love the videos and the stills.

That erla cat was Cinnamon!!!! I don't think we have any around here presently. They often come up with cottagers, though.
Yes, bears are usually with momma for 2 years. It might do OK, Yam. I don't know.

I should have one more gander at local trilliums before they are gone.
