VISA FRAUD: phone scam

Yes, another one. It's not new, either. This is the gist of the first part, from 2016, from someone else.

I asked him  how did I know he was from VISA? He told me my name and full address. He asked, "How else would I know this information? I have your file here."

This is my call, after the first dude passed me on to a 'supervisor.' Eventually she hung up on me. I put the phone on speaker phone to record it. I was curious.

Ha! We get calls from "Microsoft", urgent calls from our "credit card company" and I personally got the phone call about paying my income tax return or being charged (or something along those lines, I forget, it was a year ago). My concern is always with the elderly who may fall for these things. There was also a fraud going around about raising money for fire safety awareness - all sounding very legit.
Very disconcerning that these fraudsters had the first four digits as well as the address. -Jenn

I can't be without a caller Id. I live alone, so if the phone nr. is not familiar to me I don't even pick up the phone. There used to be a very good but pirate service that could tell you who phoned and where from, but this service got banned because of the manipulations of the main phone company.

That's an interesting recording.

There are so many scams out there.
We must always be on our guard and be careful.

All the best Jan

How could anyone with any sense of what is right and proper do this for income? Well done to ask her that. Down here I often get a call from a "Microsoft" so called technician. I told one operator that I had an Apple, and he said do you have a knife? Go and cut a slice, you are a very smart lady. I wonder if that call was recorded at their end. Keep calm, and be smart. as you were.

Phone scams must work often enough for them to keep phoning. I get 3 or 4 telemarketers a day. I don't answer them.

Thank you for this warning. It sounds plausible but when they start asking for those numbers, it is a definite red flag. A young friend of our son was scammed out of several thousand dollars recently. He feels stupid that he fell for it, but those people can be so darned convincing. I recently received a phone call and was threatened with prosecution if I didn’t give certain details. Supposedly they were with the IRS. I won’t answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number any more.

When Mom had caregivers I was surprised how many were vegetarian or vegan. I made meals for them to serve and eat with Mom so I had to learn a whole new way of cooking. Keeping good assistants happy was one way I could get repeat job acceptance. - Margy
