Dratted Red Squirrel (DRS), et al

We know our birds don't NEED bird feeders, but how nice it is to watch them from the front window when temps dip to double-digit below zero! The trees are full of pine cones, it was a good year for them. The trees are heavily-laden.

The globe feeder is meant for the wee birds (junco, goldfinch, sparrows), as the bigger ones bully them. The hairy woodpeckers are the worst! This is a little sanctuary. Below is a junco, and a goldfinch, posing for me. Then a male downy woodpecker, being supervised by the sparrow.

He's hilarious. DRS was chewing through the suet bag (see the blog post: Red squirrel),

so I moved it. I took these photos through the window.

I wasn't sure he'd hang around, but he did, long enough for a video!  I checked, and while he squeezed out, if he gets stuck I can unscrew the bottom. (Whew!)

Hello, love all your cute feeder birds. Those darn squirrels always find a way to the feeders. Cute photos. Thanks so much for linking up your post and for your visit and comments. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!

LOL... how can ya resent such a crafty critter its 'chips'?!!

On other matters, I's already doped up on Winter O's - curling, skating of various stripes, boarding, skiing, luge... no sleep for 36 hours; need a nanny nap before the next big sessions begin!!! YAM xx

Training for the Winter Olympics, no doubt. What a fellow to get in and wriggle out. Food and a hearty meal is SO important.

We try to keep the squirrels away from ours too but they are tenacious little buggers! Great photos! Enjoy your weekend!

My squirrel hasn't visited for a long time but I don't think it's my efforts that sent him packing.

Your video of the DRS is quite entertaining, especially with your commentary! If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes (via your video), I would not have believed that he could squeeze through such a tiny opening!

The squirrel wins that round, but you also win by getting pics.

My feeders provide me with endless hours of great entertainment.

We only had gray squirrels in Illinois so the red squirrels look quite exotic.
