Off into Ottawa, Part 1!

We had a lovely trip into the city. We left the house Friday morning at 7:30 a.m., not bad for a couple of retirees! I could still do this, putting my face on and getting dressed with a timeline! The temperature was -14 C. as we left and someone was on a bike ride.

Lots of snow. Some haven't shoveled off their vehicles.
But at least one police department is charging drivers under other sections. Ottawa Police have given drivers $110 fines under section 181, which bans dumping snow on a roadway without permission, said Const. Chuck Benoit, Ottawa police spokesman.

The skies were lovely, we passed this beautiful mosque. Our kids went into it on an open house day.

We arrived at the car dealership at 9:00 a.m., and went up to the counter to check in. We are having problems determining when our regularly-scheduled service is supposed to be. Turns out, the nice young man suggested we didn't need this service and we could be on our way.

This was problematic, since we were meeting my youngest at noon for lunch. What to do, what to do? We took off back to my daughter's home, to drop off a forgotten item from last weekend. My kids are 32, 34, and 38 this year!

Now what? I had the brilliant idea of driving to Dow's Lake to see some of the ice sculptures. Silly me. The driving was horrid. Ottawa has had so much Lake Effect Snow, the lawns and streets are full. Turns out, there weren't sculptures on the lake itself. I hadn't realized. I suppose, with climate change, that they cannot risk it. You may, instead, visit William's blog (he comments regularly on mine) and look at his exceptional photos of Winterlude. You can start with this post, he has a full series of photos.

Next stop? Little Italy.

What a mess! I spotted this poor bench, smucked by a snowplow!

Stopped at a light, the OC Transpo bus had an ad for Howard Jewelers, where hubby bought me my ring!

Ottawa is our favourite city to visit, but we never go in winter.

Is that a load of snow in the larger truck, or lots sitting on top of a flat lid? Guess the biker was keeping warm, pedalling!!! What a day.XXX

Thanks for the mention! I was at the lake yesterday, which is probably the last day of the skating season, since it closed up last night on the canal. They had ice dragon boat races, which was fun to watch, and harder to do, from the looks of it!

Your shot of Little Italy strikes a chord. If you like Italian cuisine, there's a small grocer up the street, off Preston, called DiRienzo's. They make great sandwiches and pasta. I go there often.

Sometimes you get lucky and get a good service person. I've seen williams photos of ice sculptures. They would be well worth seeing.
