Red-eyed vireo in the catch-and-release program

Dorah belongs to the catch-and-release program. She does this all the time. She's brought many critters into the house, none of them dead. Usually, she'll bring them indoors. She's brought into the house a Robin, sparrow, several small garter snakes, more than a dozen mice. The birds I released, as well as the snakes. One garter snake a couple feet long, she only managed to get it up onto the rear deck. I released it into the forest. The birds she brings into the house, I've learned to catch with the butterfly net and release them.

Out gardening, I picked Dorah's new bird up, this vireo likes the low chestnut tree. Birdie promptly latched onto the skin at the base of my thumb. Bless her little heart. She was winded and I held onto her until she calmed down. She sat on my palm for a moment, then flew off. It was a great opportunity to see her up close.

I took her onto the front lawn, nearer the trees. Someone called to her from up high. And away she flew.

Dorah brought me a bird. I set it free.

These cats must be from away. Cottagers, maybe, or barn cats? We have several that visit out house. They cross the highway, and come for a visit. Annabelle chases them away.

Lovely to see and your video, a winner. I could here the other bird calling, and your stray cat, we have one here so similar, but I'm hoping it belongs to a friend a few miles down the road.

The bird has no idea the cats only see it as sport and don't inflict real blows- they must figure they're done for, and that stresses them out, so it takes them a bit of time to recover from that.

I feel so badly, William. I monitor them as much as possible. Ironic, after I complained about cat haters!
