Watch out for flooding!

South East Ontario has had various news reports about fast water. I've seen it around here, with the wetland being extraordinarily high. This is the time of year to keep a close eye on kids and pets.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority had to change its tune! You'll notice the warnings by dates. It's rather humorous, if you are not affected. From a 'slow melt' April 2nd, to a flood warning, April 8th.

Water levels are rising in the Long Reach of the Rideau River as runoff continues to enter the system. The Manotick and Long Island Dams are opened sufficiently to pass all of the incoming flows without affecting upstream water levels.

The private roadway to the community of Hilly Lane, Kemptville, is expected to be submerged by April 9th. Residents in that community can

expect to have access difficulties over the next few days and should consider alternative accommodations. Water levels will continue to rise in Old Ottawa South. Flooding on the surface of Rideau River Drive between Belmont Street and Fentiman Avenue can be expected late this evening or overnight.

I'm in Old Ottawa South, oddly, but a few blocks away from there. I used to live much closer.

I'll have to have a peek to see what it's like over there....
