Caffeine withdrawal

It was horrible. I turned on the coffee drip and nothing happened. Nada.
No sound, no drips.
Now, my friends know our love of coffee.

Our mornings, well, I ease into it. Fetching the newspaper, down a 100m driveway, killing it and bringing it back.
We sit and read. Now, I know this is retro. Our kids sit on their iPhones and read the news, but there is something satisfying about turning the large pages one by one, discussing the news, talking about one thing and another.

JB is an aficionado, and he judges coffee in the various Daycaytions we take.
These suckers run $30,000!

He eagerly sips his coffee!

Not to panic...
he said, I'll drive into town (6 km!) and get some coffee!

No, says I, I've been through this before.

I hauled out my late mother's percolator.

I have held onto this for good reason. Aug. 4, 2006, our power went out in Muskoka for 3 days after a hurricane. We made coffee with this machine on the BBQ sideburner.
I have fond memories of mom's big open houses at Christmas, and other parties, when this was brought out. She saved everything.

That reminds me of being a little girl, watching my grandmother's coffee perk.

Our coffee maker just packed it in too! It was a horrible morning going for a whole hour without Muskoka Roastery while we drove to CT to get a new machine. Lucky you had your standby perk. Need to get one of those for just such an occasion!
And on the topic of Muskoka Roastery, have you seen the copy on the package for their 'Loon Call' blend?

Hooray for the old technology! Gotta love it, Jenn, and the memories that come with it.

I feel your pain! We now have both a Bunn, which makes coffee in 3 minutes, and a Keurig which makes coffee from the pod - because we absolutely, positively cannot miss morning coffee! But of course, we are NOT addicted!

hurrah for Mother's coffee maker. Looks like a nice quiet morning at home.

Oh gosh -- your morning sounds like ours -- it's our favorite perk of being retired! And I can't imagine not having coffee. Your Mom's collection to the rescue -- how great!

We tried the old perk a few months ago when Our coffee maker died. We didn't like the perked coffee anymore. Now it was our old perk not my mothers!!!

Gosh! I don't think I've ever seen a coffee percolator like that. What fun to be able to see the coffee percolating.

I am bad - but I also live in the city and have my favourite cafes to go to. Often I am the only one reading a newspaper as I sit amongst the laptop crowd.
