Skywatch Friday

Look at this June shot - can you tell I am anxious for spring?! I keep praying for patience!

There is no question that the best skies can be photographed in summer. The contrast of the blue with the greenery of summer...the white birch bark outstanding in the forest!

The pines look richer, the blue brighter...
Contrast the water, reflecting the deep shades of green.

We are sick with the desire for the sun
And the grass on the mountain."

Paiute Late Winter Song

Look how sad the trees look on the other side of the Bala Falls dam. Ice shoulder on the shore, a Muskoka Lakes worker shovels off the dam.

The same shot, left as below.

in winter, the lens squints in the bright light of the snow.
The blue shadows, with low light levels, make  photography tricky.

Yet, the snow takes on its own shade of blue. The dead scrub, fallen over with the weight of the snow storms, look like massed rocks.

It is as if Mother Nature paints a special picture for us, helping us appreciate the entire rainbow, but at different times of the year.

"Winter is the time for comfort,
for good food and warmth,
for the touch of a friendly hand and
for a talk beside the fire:

it is the time for home."

I love the winter hues... they are lovely and soothing in their own way.

I love the summer/winter contrast of these photos. There is always a tug of war between being in the moment and enjoying and looking ahead to warmer/cooler days.....ahhhh humans, we are a funny lot!
Have a great weekend.

Oh, I agree with Yogi, marvelous contrast! Really terrific captures, Jenn! I think we're all yearning for summer even though I'm ashamed to say that when our winter has been the mildest on record so far -- it's still gray and gloomy much of the time although it does make up for it when the sun finally does come out for a bit. Have a great weekend, stay warm!

Winter has its beauty but summer has the promise of adventure and the world springing to life.

Without winter we'd not have or appreciate the green of summer as much. Both carry their own beauty. It is a case of adapting. Something I obviously don't want to do regarding this much snow for winter.

Jenn -- we are on the road and my blog reading is hit and miss -- I'm glad I hit on this post. Beautiful pictures along with the two quotes contrasting the seasons -- I really enjoyed it.
