Saturday's Critters

Here we are again! What a strange week for temperatures. The tree frogs have begun singing from the trees, again. Soon they will nestle into the leaves. Friday it was 21 C. but tonight it is going down to 2 C.

We haven't seen many deer in ages. This one thought she'd emulate the coyotes at the other camera!

Can you see it? It was tricky. I think it is the yellow-bellied.

They were around a lot in spring, when you could hear them banging on the metal tower.
I have a ton of photos of them: Dratted Red Squirrels (DRS)!

Last week I had about 50 trailcam clips of DRS. They are busy preparing for winter. It was just bad camera placement, except it is on a path the critter use frequently. I put together some clips of it burying food for winter. Cleverly, I turned the camera around to see if I could find some other critters.

It found the camera!

They whip through the forest!

We have to celebrate Butch, too!

Finally, the wee fisher came by!

Saturday's Critters

Here we are and it is Saturday again!

It is katydid season! They are everywhere.

I spotted both a small viceroy and monarch. Honestly!

It's been awfully hot here. Weeding has been a chore. Critters are few and far between on the trailcams, except for Fred.

I've been featuring Fred. There is still no sign of kits.

Fred groundhog has a burrow under our deck. I cannot do any better videotaping it than this! I'm trying to find out where the hole is under the deck.

One coyote or two? There is a bat or moth. The coyote blesses the area, too!

I love these two tree frogs! They like the corner of the railing.

Coming back from putting out garbage, the catbird fetched herself a moth. If you watch until the end, you can hear why they call them catbirds!

One young 'un hit the deck glass and landed on the deck beside me. The parent landed in front of me, most concerned. There was a third one. Two of them ended up on the laundry tree.

A Celebration of Tree frogs!

I shall miss them during hibernation.

Soon they will dig themselves in and under leaf and forest debris. In the meantime, I am enjoying them. They are everywhere.

Back deck!

Behind orange bear on the front porch. (I'm ready for fall!)

I BBQ'd some bacon-wrapped chicken rounds, but first, I had to move froggie. Of course, it peed on me, so I had to wash my hands.

They come in all shapes and sizes, but are usually green or gray, changing colour to suit their environment. I've been cleaning up the back deck, and found them behind the thermometer.

Out front, on the blue heron statue. (No reading glasses, so the wild aster took first place).

I keep forgetting to look for THIS froggie. As I pull the hose, it sits inside and goes around and around, then breaks free to plop onto the wall to stop the spinning. They tend to go back to the same place as dawn breaks. Little creature of habit. Later in the day I heard it singing from inside the rack. It has a lovely amplifying effect!

These two were nose to nose on the railing.

In preparation for winter, I brought in the elephant ear plant JB's aunt gave us before she passed. I found that if I bring it in prior to the cold nights the froggies don't tend to sleep over in it. So far so good. I still don't know where the frog that was in the bathroom has gone, if anywhere. Ah, rural life!

This is not a new thing to happen. Mr. Tree Frog is in the building happened in October 2018. It happened in 2015, as well. It fascinates the cats. Hooper liked to sit on the plant looking for froggie.

Back in 2018, Daisy and Dorah were quite curious. By January I was worried, and JB got me some mealworms, which I raised in a container. Daisy was rehomed for attacking Hooper. Later, Hooper died in a car incident. Such is life and death.

Frogs and fountains

First, let me vent. My MPP bragged that he voted without a mask. How can this happen at the polling station? It's not right. He was sent back to his car at a local store to get a mask. A Perth resident told me he wore a face shield in Ontario Parliament.

"If Hillier entered the polling station he probably wore a face shield like he did when he had to vote in the legislature. He would never publicize that, none of the anti-maskers would admit to wearing a mask in some situations."

I found out how... and it ticks me off.

He'll retire with a great MPP's pension and continue to schill for the PPCs, a crazy right-wing party in Canada. They are fomenting anti-mask vitriol. No one is free, unless they live off-grid on 100 acres and don't drive, need healthcare, medication, or groceries.

OK, back to our regular news. We've a sweet bird hanging about, freshening up in the fountain.

There is a time of year when one must wash one's windows. I'm nearing that sweet spot. The sun shines into the window in the afternoon. If it gets too cold, the cleaning fluid freezes on the window. Let's see how long I put this off!

I love the tree frogs. There were three on the corning of the railing.

🐻SNUGGLE Bears – they are studying world geography! This globe was a Christmas gift for JB awhile back. I loves his maps.
