Crumbly Acres

Toilet time! My anxiety causes me issues. It has since 2005. 'Nuff said! I'd love a bidet, but we don't have easy access to a power source in the bathroom.  This was to be my solution. It was a good idea from Caitlin. It was the execution where I had my problem.

Sadly, I think the shut off tap is past its Best Before date. It is really tight to turn. When we had the toilet installed, it was shoddy work and took 4 people to actually get that done! It leaked for 8 days when we were away. The 4th guy accidentally sliced through the toilet stack: The toilet issue (2019).

I disassembled my pieces and assembled them from the package. Downloading the manual helped.

I tried once and couldn't figure it out. I was sitting on a foot rest, to get down to the problem. With my knees there are issues getting up. I could not put it together, and the connection now leaked. I called one plumber, but they were working on a private home, have done since December and had no one available. I phoned another one, and got voice mail.
We went for a drive to get out and about.

We drove up highway #511 and found this. It's been awhile since we drove this way!

We popped in and they put us on the schedule for Monday.

Our plumber arrived Monday, earlier than expected. Glad I'd had to get dressed to put out garbage. The job is done. The shut off valve was good, except the last plumber turned it too tightly. We'll see how this works out for me.

Our for a drive

This is a snow fence, doing its job. Nearly time to remove this, as well.

This is what our wetlands look like!

I really like these buildings.

Can you see? The snowmobile track is closed. They just have to remove the markers.

Big Rideau, and other big bodies of water, still icy in parts.

We are ready for spring!

Trip to Kingston

Monday was a marathon. We drove to Kingston to have lunch with JB's friends of 50 years. There were pop up showers, and it was chilly, but good to get out of the house. Nearly 100 km, it was a bit of a drive for lunch, but a halfway-point for all of us.

There is still tree damage from the ice storm, but the green grass...

Pop-up showers came and went. This dude thought passing on a double line, in the rain, was called from. He passed the car behind us (he was tailing us) , as well as our car, at the same time. Then, passed the guy in front.

I know this is silly, but, the GREEN everywhere!!!! We had to soak it up.

There was a kestrel on a wire. You'll have to trust me. We saw one in the #2a Tupper Lake Trip: The Wild Center. Happily. We have one nesting around here, if my ears are correct, but it is a fast, flighty critter!

It is wonderful seeing the green grass, and the trees in bloom. Muskoka chairs are ready for warmer temperatures.

We drove by Joyceville Prison, where government workers are on strike. I was in a union for all of my teaching career, president of my occasional teacher union, as well as on the executive of my local group, OCETF. I wrote a post about the disparity between the front line workers and CEOs.

Soon there will be boaters, cottagers and people celebrating summer! It was a tak chilly, as well as rainy, but spring is there!

Here they await for swimmer, and boaters. The Hydro wires rather ruin it, but it is a dark photo anyway!

There is lots of development on the outskirts of town.

The sky began to brighten as we crossed the city.

Fort Henry has some picketers.

There was bridge work. We only have three seasons, bugs, construction and snow!

That was a pretty good drive. More another day. Tonight is the meeting with our Planner recommending a deferral on this danged vote on the gun range application. It was good to get away.

Another adventurous drive

It's healthy to get out in the country. Dec. 3rd, hubby said let's go photograph the Darou-McPherson building in Perth. After that, we drove. This is a backroad, with a wonderful river.

This guy had a hard time. I think they were his dogs, and they got in the car. Hubby kept back until things were good.

We went to Newboro, to browse. Kilborns is a huge store, several buildings, renovated to connect together.
Then, for a late lunch at The Stagecoach Inn. It's lovely. They close at 3:00 p.m., though. We were the last patrons. It was quiet. They are open for dinners on the weekend.

Hubby spotted a hawk. The hawk spotted the car. Off it went. You get the idea!

Then, just about home, we found two herds of deer feeding on the grass. They could be 'our' deer, as we weren't far from home. The seemed to know that hunting season is over. Hubby turned the car around, and I got a better shot.

This is a drive-by shooting. They didn't pay us much attention! I've often seen deer here.

What do you do?

I'm still babying my foot. Off we went, yesterday, to physiotherapy. After that, we just kept on driving! It's coming along, but staying off of it is the key to tenosynovitis!

You'll recall the flooding in our region. The Tay River is flowing madly. It's crested, and has been going down somewhat. They removed the pylons on the road, and we shall see what Tuesday's rain brings. We are high and dry, atop a hill in our wetland. For that, I am grateful.

It was 23 C. Monday. Unusual for us for April, so we enjoyed the wind on our drive.
The storm was moving in, and we drove into the crepuscular clouds as we headed west. We ended up driving back, and found some sunshine.

Off onto a sideroad. You can imagine how the GPS leads one astray. A lovely view, only to end up at a road 'not maintained by the county' and snow covered!

After the grouse, we spotted a pair of ospreys who had built a nest on the TV tower!

Eventually, we made it back to Perth. The Hot Wok, what a lovely little restaurant! Lots of take out business, and. Hubby came in last week to pick up our order. It was wonderful! They do a fusion of Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese food.

As we debated whether to order mild, medium or spicy food, hubby went for the spicy. You can never tell. JB asked our server how spicy was spicy? I told her that for a white guy he does spicy really well. She said for an Asian, she doesn't! Hubby lived many years in Vancouver and likes both spicy and chopsticks well. We neglected to ask for them for him. I prefer a fork!

They've been here for four years, and we've never popped in. We sat, and people came and went with their take out orders. After that a hilarious group of six came in. It was someone's birthday. As we left, I approached the table and said, 'You guys tell good stories!' They all laughed. They were lots of fun.
BTW
Just as we entered the restaurant, the rain storm followed us, and there was lightning, and much rain.
Home, again, to put my foot up!
No rain here! Very bizarre!
