Farewell summer...

It is a poignant time of year for me. We always came home from the cottage the week before school started. Mom would do a massive house clean while playing Christmas music at full blast. She didn't start work until September. Dad escaped to the office!

We haven't gone anywhere or done anything, since we've been so ill. Joe has been great about figuring out meals. We've a couple of things coming up and I will look forward to getting out of the house. The Perth Fair (the heavy horses), the Sundance Artisan Show, are two things we shall try for.

The garden is wearing down. I am very behind in weeding. I filled a large garbage can yesterday. Once the seeds disperse one is doomed. My one pumpkin and one zucchini look good 😣, thankfully we've lots and lots of cherry tomatoes.

It is joyful reading about all the people preparing preserves for winter.

The thunder storms will stop. I figured out how to do a live screen capture of the recent August storm on LightningMaps.org.

The hummingbirds were still here as of Friday, visiting the petunias and various wildflowers. Soon they will be gone. I spotted one the other day on the petunias.

The Woodland Sunflowers are still in bloom, but some are losing leaves and petals. I'm not ready! The butterflies are disappearing. The large ones don't last too long. The season is so short.

Bees, wasps...

Our Ottawa kids are canoe camping in Algonquin Park this week. They rent a canoe, and have it dropped off at their launching point. Then they canoe along the lake, portage, and find their camp site.

Then school begins.

Caitlin bought a canoe on Kijiji for less that the cost of renting a second canoe. They tried it out at the beach! Aster and Jo sure are growing.

Saturday was a let down! We'd watched the DNC speeches. VP Harris is amazing. Driven, positive, determined to improve the lives of all Americans in terms of housing, healthcare, human rights. It's a lot to hope for, but all the people around her have changed the tone of the election.

The dawn has arrived.

Yes, one's survival sometimes means letting the garden go for a while. Tomatoes are great to have at least. I tell my porch plants that I'll give them fertilizer next time I water...and they still don't seem to have any understanding. They are so focused on the now. Mmm, maybe I should water this morning.

Your summers past sound like mine. This has been a rough summer for me. I haven't been at the lake one single day when I wasn't dealing with an infection, medical treatment or recovery from an injury or an ailment. Not one. The latest (a chest wall contusion from a fall on our way home from Minneapolis) feels like the last straw. Very distressing. Putting on a cheery face with it just requires so much energy. I don't want summer over before I've enjoyed it the way it should be enjoyed. Unfortunately, summer doesn't wait for anyone. It operates at its own pace. So, I not only hear you about your summer -- I so empathize.

Th air feels different. It doesn't feel like summer anymore which is a bit sad. I am not looking forward to winter.

I am not a fan or either of the candidates. They (all of Washington) need to be replaced, we need term limits so the aging leave office:)
Yes it is the end of summer and other than a few car shows and Doctors appointments we have gone no place special.

We had an inflatable dinghy once, Hugh blew it up, we sat it on the lake shore, it got very hot and the poor thing exploded!!! White powder everywhere. He drove several hundred kilometres and bought an aluminium one !!! That looks so inviting to be near the water. Yes, as you shuffle into another season, our sunshine hours are getting longer and days are warming up. Meanwhile Josh in Vancouver is thankful for cooler days and nights.

Summer is winding down... It would be hard to leave the cottage, I imagine.

I am hopeful about the change in tone in the election, but I'm still worried Trump will either pull it off or burn us all down if he doesn't 😢

...for just one day I wish that my Canadian friends could be Americans and help Kamala Harris as President!

I hear you on the weeds. My garden has got away from me. Again. I did some weeding yesterday but more is needed. Much more.

Your grand girls have an air of maturity about them.

Summer is still in full blast mode here but our time is coming. I love Autumn and ours lasts several months.
I've been a Republican for literally 50 years but I don't recognize the party any longer starting with Reagan. He was a big phony.

Anyway we watched the Democrats convention and we are both excited by Harris and Walz. I just hope that they can win. If Trump wins it is going to be very dark.
