The little chestnuts are growing!! Some drop off, as they aren't viable.
I noticed a pair of cedar waxwings in the Horse Chestnut tree. I grabbed a photo of the waxwing, knowing they are flighty, then took out my videocamera. They flew!
They landed in the backyard later, on a serviceberry bush. This is good for a giggle. Little twerps!

At that point I put the zoom lens on. It really didn't help much!
They grew well and Guinivere liked them.
Phlox has 5 petals, this 4. Fireweed grows much taller!

We have fireweed in the bog just beyond our lane. Our bees used to love it. It has been overtaken by purple loosestriff. :(

Fireweed is new to me. I wonder whether we have it. A pretty thing.
Waxwings are such elegant birds.
I sometimes wonder where the names come from, apart from their botanical ones. Maybe a Dame was living somewhere and thought they looked so pretty. Down here, I had 2 little wax-eyes sitting on a maple shrub stem, but every time I went to the window to get a photo they flew off. Maybe today, before the rain comes.
I haven't seen a cedar waxwing yet this year. I love them!
Fireweed is starting to bloom along the roadsides here. Dame's Rocket is usually found in more wooded areas. I didn't learn what it was until just a year or two ago. Such a pretty plant.
The cedar waxwing video was had me looking and looking until near the end! HA!
I've heard of fireweed at some point.
I once thought that dame’s rockets were phlox and had to learn that they weren’t. They look go to me, though.
Nice to see the Cedar Waxwings. Used to get drunk on the leftover fermented apples in Wenatchee, WA. Such a striking bird. Have I mentioned lately how much I love your "yard"?
