The goldfish situation

Poor fishy. It had dropsy and dropped.
That bloated look, with fins standing out from its body.

Thank goodness they had babies last summer.
You can see how the babies have grown.
They are such a wonderful bright colour.
Their pond is still frozen over.

Another few weeks and I hope I can pop them in!

Alewives crossed with the goldfish
I look forward to that bright green colour and the iris soon. In the meantime, they seem anxious to get outside.

Oh, they're inside/outside goldfish. I did wonder about the frozen pond.

Great shots of the goldfish.

My wife makes me drag in her geraniums every winter. I think fish would be more entertaining.

Poor fish! Dropsy is such a funny name for a fish disease. Hope the survivors get to move outside soon.

Fish tanks outside are pretty interesting. Here the farmers had fish in their dug outs and herons and mink were given a free lunch. In your yard everything should be okay.

Good thing you have so many babies from last summer. I think dropsy is a pretty hard disease to treat!!!

I'm a bit confused about how the alewives got into your fish pond.

Well... short story is, we live in the middle of a wetland. I brought some plants up from the frog pond in the wetland, thinking they were a safe local idea, rather than buying plants. There must have been eggs in the muck. They began to grow and thrive. I was incredibly surprised! It was a biology student at our local Ontario Park who identified them for me. I didn't have a clue. The frog pond also has mudpuppies, and all the other creatures!
