FIRES IN ONTARIO

Fires continue to burn across Ontario. Our rural firefighters are very busy, as well as those cities with full-time firefighters. Despite this, people are still making campfires, even at cottages. Apparently, the rules don't apply to them.

Seasonal residents are known for their constant fireworks and bonfires whilst on vacation, despite fire bans and tinder-dry foliage.

FIRE #1. Fire destroys cottage near Bala

Just back from visiting Muskoka, and Windsor Dr., specifically, there was a horrible cottage fire there on Tuesday, at #1046 Windsor Dr., in Bala, on Tuesday, Aug. 9th. It is my cousin's old cottage. We lived at #1066, my aunt & Uncle's cottage was two doors down, and my Uncle and Aunt's cottage  at #1056. My cousin, an architect, rebuilt his home at #1056, and sold it a few years ago. He also designed the cottage that burned, at #1046, which his brother had built. Many people live full-time nearby. It could have been a terrible fire, except for the wonderful Muskoka Lakes Volunteer Firefighters.

The family built a campfire, beside the cottage on Sunday, didn't extinguish it properly and the fire broke out Tuesday, when no one was there.
Ontario Forest Fires
There are signs across Ontario forbidding fires. They are being ignored.
