Annual check ups

They are quite the pair. The vets estimate they were born June 30, 2019. This was their first check up: Kitten vet visit. It was 2019 and they both fit into the same carrier!

Wednesday was my day to take the cats in for their annual exams and shots. There have been many successful visits, but I had a problem. Joe is sick with a horrid bout of coughing, wheezing, and I was going solo.

I have so many bad visits with cats. I tried not to think of those. One year we had to cancel and rebook. Nutmeg was so loud, Cinnamon and disappeared in a panic.

This is what she is like:

One year a dog sat and barked for our 15 minutes in the waiting room. The cats were scared to death. Noises trigger my social anxiety.

Another time we turned up in the parking lot and a woman was there looking for her cat who had escaped her arms or the car. It was so sad. She never found it.

This time, I had to wait a bit. There was a dog in one room. I covered the two cat carriers with my coats, hoping to shield them. The dog was being noisy in the room Another big dog entered, and he was very excited and was yapped loudly. I just shook. He was very kind and took his dog outside after apologising. I was so stressed. I was nearly weeping. I was tearing up.

I finally realized what was wrong with me. I'd missed my antidepressant pill the day before. I couldn't figure out was was wrong. Not until dinner time, when I went to take my meds. Oy vey.

Nutmeg wasn't a happy camper. They lived at the vet about 6 years ago. They were rescued by someone who found them on the side of the road. We adopted them from the vet, where they lived for a few weeks until we took them in.

Cinnamon was quite relaxed. He is an easy going boy.

She settled on the table, and didn't budge. Her weight is 100 gm down: to 4.5 kg. Not bad.
Cinnamon (6.8 kg) has gained a half kilogram. Whoopsie. They are both on a senior's diet. He needs more walkies.  When the snow goes...

He was calm enough to rub up against my leg.

We arrived home safely. I took her into the basement. I wasn't lifting him any further than I had to. I let him out of the carrier, and off he went.

Cats at the vet!

It was time for their annual exams. The first task is to get them into their respective crates. We used to cram them in together, but Nutmeg was a bit of a grump. OK, rather aggressive and growled at her sweet brother! She wasn't amused. Cinnamon was more chill, in the carrier under her.

They have grown: 2024 vs. 2019 when they were kittens.

Nutmeg was reluctant to come out, but sat and glared while JB petted her.

Cinnamon patrolled, mushing me, the exam table legs, and the vet. They spent two months or so, at the vet waiting to be adopted. I guess 2 vaccinations, and a thermometer up the butt phases her, but not him!

Nutmeg went first. Cinn kept mushing things.

I set him on the table, to let him see where Nutmeg was, but he didn't stay there long.

We arrived home, and opened the trunk, opened their carriers. They carefully looked out to ensure they were home, and headed to the door.

Cats to the vet & deer friends

It was a busy day! They both did very well. It was just an annual check up, as well as their annual shots. Cinnamon is on the heavy side, but he is a happy lad. He's put on a bit more weight. We won't hold that against him. (Who am I to throw stones?!) We've been rather lazy in the wet and the cold and I have been restricting their outdoor time. We have to decide if we should put them on 'senior cat' food. It is weird, since Nutmeg will push, or nudge him out of his own bowl. She is the boss, for sure!

There was wailing and gnashing of teeth! Both were pulling at the carrier doors. Once there, Cinnamon made himself at home.

He seemed pretty laid back. They lived here for a month or so until we adopted them. They'd been found at the side of the highway, likely dumped. People do that around here.

Bell is still working on the phone lines. It was a great morning for that. The blue sky didn't last, however.

On the other side of the highway, there was pruning being done by HydroOne. I love work. I could watch it for hours!

We've had winds, but they are still working on Lanark Lifestyles part 2, or is it 3?!

The icicles are hanging.

It's not a great photo, but it reminds me of the sighting. A happy doggy with a 3' stick walking along the sidewalk quite proudly with its prize.

In the afternoon, I went back out to fetch trailcam cards. I accidentally dumped ones with the coyote. Oh, well. I have quite a few of them. I know. As I was puttering around, don't tell JB, but a sweet doe came over to me. She was quite curious as to whether I would put some food out for her. Who could resist?

Thank you for your kind words about the deer photos. We are blessed, seeing them around us.

Dec., 2015, three bucks
–very unusual to see the males

Then there is the herd of doe-a-deer!

2016

Tuesday afternoon was a bit of a mess. We had rain, snow, sleet and graupel! I had a nice hot shower after snowshoeing in the forest. JB got the groceries done just as it began.

Kitten vet visit

They are quite the pair. The vets estimate they were born June 30, 2019.

Nutmeg's been playing in my plant. There was dirt and debris on the floor under the plant, behind the couch.

I put some dowels in the pot. It may have to go out. I've hung onto it for two years, putting it out in summer. I found her sitting in the plant, behind my little fence.

I took the kittens in for their shots. Kittens have two sets.

We made it into the examination room. They were quite comfortable. They lived here for a couple of weeks. They stayed over when we visited Ottawa for JB's birthday, as well.

So relaxed, they are grooming while listening to noise behind the door.

I was worried that they were hanging out near the door to the inner sanctum. I thought the vet would come in and knock them arse over teakettle. They'd be so upset. The vet, I mean. I put my booted foot beside the door, as they seemed to want to groom here. Poor Dr. Sara was so upset. She just bonked my foot. We had a good laugh. She's seen us through lots of cat issues.

Cinnamon, the male, sniffed every smell he could find. That deep sniffing, with his mouth open.

I love our Dr. Sara. She cut their nails, took their temperature (thermometer in the butt!), cleaned out their ears again (heaven knows where they were dumped in the country), and they were weighed.  Nutmeg is 5 lbs. 11 oz, Cinnamon is 7 lbs. 7. They had two needles to get them up to snuff. Then they had defleaing meds on them. We were good to go! Annabelle has to go in this month. It'll be fun seeing her weight. She LOVES that kitten food!

Meantime, on the trailcam. Two bucks were hanging out.
