Rain, snow, sleet and graupel

We had freezing rain warnings for Tuesday. Wednesday wasn't much better. Joe hustled in to get groceries. It's not the rain, it's the ice rain we worry about.

Tariff Tuesday began... We're trying to look after ourselves. The stress for so many is palpable. They are threatening cutting Social Security, which employees pay into over their work lives. Then, Medicare and Medicaid. I just don't get the deal. There is no art to these deals. They are crippling Americans as much as Canadians!

This was a symbolic image. Sadly the goose seems to have Avian Flu, and while it won the battle, the war isn't over. They do call Canada Geese 'Cobra Chickens!'

This is fabulous!

What about retail therapy? Buy Canadian, buy from Scotland! I ordered a new purse from Maritime Tartan Company. They are based out east, with all products made in Canada or Scotland. It's a Harris Tweed Tote! All we can do is support Canadian workers.

I packed up my new purse and set out in a storm. I had a haircut booked in Carleton Place, a 45-minute drive away. At home: snow; on the way: rain, near Franktown (aka: the Hostage Exchange from Gramma Camp) there was snow. Heavy snow. A transport was breathing down my neck on a slippery road. I slid around into the lane for the spa. By the time my hair was done, rain. Home through rain, not so bad. At home rain turned to ice pellets, then snow, back to... you get the idea.

Our message to the GOP on behalf of Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Ukraine, and woke American Citizens.

Arriving home at our driveway, I stopped and thought about checking for mail. I decided it wasn't a good idea to fetch it right after a haircut! All tidied up. Of course it doesn't look like I had a haircut, but that's the idea. I am looking for easy, safe and predictable.

We are under attack!

I went to bed to read Friday night. Then I heard a helicopter after 9 pm. Poking my head out back in the dark, it was a helicopter, for sure. It looks like some poor soul was taken from Perth Hospital to somewhere! Mystery solved. No attack...

Historical Notes

I live with someone who remembers the World History. Since High School (1960s) he was a keener on such. Joe will pop out some gems I either did not know or have forgotten. Of course, he'll read a 600-page book which examines two months in one particular war or another. He'll give me the Coles Notes version.

This is what Joe talked about most recently...

Munich Agreement 🇩🇪

In 1938, Neville Chamberlain gave up part of Czechoslovakia, without Czech input, to appease Hitler in the Munich Agreement. Hitler annexed the remainder of Czechoslovakia in March. Then he began by invading Poland in September, which began World War II.

With #47 vowing to end the war on Ukraine, and Vance overseas demanding Ukraine sign off on lost territory, history is trying to repeat itself. It's about land, rare earth minerals, and power.

 Budapest Memorandum 🇭🇺 (1994 Wiki):

The world struck an agreement between the parties involved[3] :

The memoranda... prohibited Russia, the U.S. and the UK from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations." As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.[4][5]

This is the situation, with U.S. working in cahoots with Russia to get Ukraine to give up for a peace deal. The U.S. is doing this behind Ukraine's back, without their input.

You can understand how upset Canada is, with threats of annexation and being the 51st state. History only repeats itself.
The phrase "those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" is attributed to George Santayana, who wrote it in 1905.

Then, there is Puerto Rico! It's not a state, not treated equally, and is an 'unincorporated territory' of the U.S. The felon from Mar-A-Lago is not empathetic towards weaker people who need a hand up. The poor, refugees, disabled, unhoused, those needing healthcare, LGBTQ+, elderly, are on their own.

The U.S. government has a long history of invasions: most recently Vietnam, Afghanistan, and they annexed Mexico back in the day. I had no idea.

A good read:

This is what is going on over at Twitter X: so much for freedom of speech! He and his goons in short pants have somehow gotten access to personnel files, the treasury, USAID, CDC.

Even the snow is attacking us! I'm going to have to go out and shovel some snow. Last measurement gave us 25 cm.  I did the driveway Sunday and konked out. The sidewalk will take some time as it snowed from Saturday until Sunday night. After this the winds began to create piles of drifting snow.

Rant over, time for coffee.

Rainy days, indoor play

We've had rain on snow. The driveway is treacherous. Yes, indoor play! Online research.

Going through Perth, I noticed that the apartment building is coming along! From Google 2012, prior to selling it, and the tear down:

It was torn down, and rebuilt. Here is their rental website.

  • 2 bedroom 1.5 bath
  • $2,300/mo. + utilities

🎨 I finally did a sketch!

Knowing we'd be away, I thought I'd put the Blue Sky app on my phone. Look what came up first when I searched for it! The rich keep getting richer.

💰 This is what we expect: trouble. Tariffs and trade are going to get complicated. Especially when someone doesn't understand who actually pays the tariff (the consumer). Why would all these billionaires, or their companies pay it?

We've examples of price fixing: potatoes, and bread. Then there is the rent fixing through YieldStar, which has happened on both sides of the border. Our province used to have rent controls. The Conservative Premier has bowed down to his rich developer friends.
