November is here!

That was a great day for chores! I dressed Frosty for November. He has a little vest, a big poppy, and a cute tartan.

I fixed the flagpole. Again. And I put up my red ribbons for November. Remembrance Day is on Nov. 11th.

We have a flag from the Legion. That is on the right. JB gave an old WW II map to the Legion. In return, they gave him the lawn sigh on the left!

In the late afternoon, it clouded over.

Remember my 100 daffodil bulbs? Apparently, something dug up one clump. There were two bulbs left, and I threw them back in the hole, as well as the scattered dirt.
I know who I suspect... 🦝!

I finally remembered to bring the shovels up from the shed. I dragged the snowblower up from the shed and put it into the garage. We are ready.

Down at the frog pond, I noticed that the baffle is coming off of the one tree. It prevents raccoons from getting into the wood duck box. The second box I shifted to try and check it out. It fell off at the top, the top screw gave out. This is a job for another day. The wood ducks won't be back until spring to nest.

I still have to fix the third wood duck nest box. Maybe I should just replace it and move the one box. This is what it looked like in 2021. The other photo was this year, after the bears ripped it apart. [Momma Bear and Two Cubs

I got mail! Our Vancouver grandkids sent me some art and art puzzles. I managed to piece them together. I often send them a piece of my sketches and make them into a puzzle. Isn't that fun?

We've a lot of juncos about. This one was released.

It was a good day to get outdoor chores done, if you dressed for it.

Trip to Chesterville: Part 2

I suppose I should just get this over with: the leaves are turning...  The low temperature overnight was 11 C.!

Blue sky, again! We drove out of the clouds. This is ironic, as you will see later. We decided to go on Wednesday, because rain was forecast for the next few days.
This is typical farm country. The corn is nearly done.
Summer line painting!
They are taking trees down for either housing or more farmland.

This was a surprise. Highway #43 is a busy transportation route! It is closed until October.

The gardens and the homes are diverse.

People are fundraising for a care home.

We visited the gravestones.

There is JB visiting his grandfather's family.

This is from the archive (2018), the cedars were gone. I knew when we were there, but I wasn't sure where they used to be.

Off we went. We headed back to town to look for a picnic spot. JB picked this spot out, but it looked like a bunker. I pulled this off Facebook. They have a market here, but there were quite a few people sitting as we drove by. This was my mistake, as you will read later.

We kept on going. Carefully!

The season unfolds...

Gramma Camp – Week 31

Firstly, signage. We white people really have to get together to fight racists, and be allies. Sometimes it is difficult to know what to do. These hateful acts can blatant, or be microaggressions, which we whites never have to face. There were terrible murders last week in London, Ontario, a hateful man attacking Muslims. A family, mother, father, grandmother and daughter gone in an instant, leaving a young 9-year-old boy orphaned.

Our kids gave us two of these signs, and I've had comments from various delivery people who liked it (we don't have visitors here). JB gave one of our Welcome signs to Picnic Cafe in September of 2020. Picnic Cafe has now printed 50 up and people are buying them, the money donated to the orphan. They will be placing them around Perth. There is a Facebook page for Welcome Your Neighbour Canada

That was a day. With the Internet failure Wednesday, both girls plugged away on their schoolwork on Thursday. Grampa had some footcare, and after our 2nd vaccine dose the day prior, we thought we'd take it easy. We were pretty good.

I went in to wake Izzy up by opening the blind, and she popped her eyes open, startling me! She had a good giggle about that. Isabelle had breakfast outside, listening to her music.

Isabelle's teachers made up a different sort of plan for Wednesday/Thursday. It is really tricky keeping track of it all. With this schedule, she's right opposite Josephine's schedule. They usually read while they eat, anyway, but it does make the adult's work more difficult, having to keep track of yet a different time to stop and eat.

After our day was done... Grampa brought us an afternoon treat.

Spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, with chocolate mint ice cream in parfait dishes, served by Isabelle!

Lymantria caterpillars (LDD)

This tree in the back 40 is looking pretty whipped. May 27 and June 10.

The LDD caterpillars are up to 32 mm, and I've been picking off the ones on my roses, rhododendron, and hops vine. It is discouraging.

Phoebe babies are doing well! They should fledge any minute. We've been severely limiting outdoor cat time. We let them out to pee, and feed them later. when they come in. That way they come back in, hungry.

Finally, a lovely visitor. great crested flycatcher
