An afternoon in Westport

That was a long day! I toodled off to Westport for a funeral. On the way there was some excitement.

They were still there on the way home!

It's a lovely church, rebuilt after a fire back in the day of wood stoves and all.

A lovely Celebration of Life for a man of deep faith, followed by a Legion ceremony. A man who served as a teacher, police auxiliary inspector, active member of the Legion, and a town  councillor. It was moving.

We all drove behind the hearse to the cemetery. Do you know how easy it is to turn on your flashers accidentally? I have done so. It took me a moment to find them for this.
A beautiful day.

For some respite (the town was busy), I drove home through empty, quiet backroads, stopping for photos.

Even met a ruffed grouse!

The park has new signage. Well, new to me?! "CAUTION ENDANGERED SPECIES AREA"

Sure enough, an actual example of an endangered species! I'd just passed the park, and there was traffic coming and going. I thought it best to get out and usher it across the busy road.

Here I am on the dashcam.

Poor little grouse

It last happened in November, 2014. A ruffed grouse went into the window. I suspect the hawk chased it. There is a pair of red-tailed hawks checking out the old horned owl nest just across the street. They have not nested there, but I hear them a lot. We have a sharp-shinned hawk in the area, as well.

It happened again, on May 1st, 7:45 a.m. I wrapped it in a towel to see if it would recover. It did not. I held it until it was gone. It was a massive hit.
I put the little body on the far lot. Some creature would benefit from it. Either the vultures or the coyotes.
