I'm still decorating!

We are being very kind to ourselves and one another, since we are still fighting health issues. Some popped a half-eaten box of chocolates beside my chair!

 

My buddy and I went outside to play in the snow. I wore my beautiful red snow boots for the first time this year.

They match my bright red gloves – sent by the Red Cross seeking a donation from me. The meadow was snow-covered. It poured rain on Thursday, no more snow.

The rhododendrons are wrapped. Mostly to prevent Bambi from trimming it!

I was going to do lot outside on Thursday, but it poured rain. I had my haircut. Last time I had a haircut, Oct. 30th, it dumped 9 mm! This is a trend.

Yes, I'm still decorating. We've no guests expected, but it is satisfying. I stuffed my basket with pine branches. I popped in a red ball. It needs a little something else, doesn't it?! 

I gave Mama bear a ball to hand to her cub.

Hanging out these balls, I noticed the lights reflect the green, blue and red from the baskets.

Crock pot chili! Back in 2004 my mom wrote out a recipe for this for JB. He was retiring in 2005 before I did in 2007, and could get dinner on with this. I've modified it some, but it's a sweet memory. My mother and JB had a great time together. 

I love the crock pot. You throw stuff in after breakfast, and can smell it all afternoon.

Back in the day I'd make this carrot bundt cake. Crazy Cake for birthdays is now a tradition! JB can eat it. Do you have a favourite holiday recipe?

Friday adventures

Well, 'adventures' is a bit of an exaggeration. Friday I noticed that someone helped themselves to a baby pumpkin! I would suspect a squirrel, as they ate all the seeds.

New header! It's the last of the leaves, though.

The yard is a lot less green!

Back up at the house, they are back. With itchies!

I had a chat with him. He wasn't too scared.

Now you may laugh. Others have their Hallowe'en lights on. I put on the Christmas ones.

JB went walkies between rain showers. Notice that most of the leaves are down! Snow tires are on the car, so, WINTER bring it on!

It's December!

While we had snow, a couple of times, it has melted. I would prefer a nice protective cover of snow for the critters and plants. Instead, the temperatures have been up and down. Over the past week, I've been decorating for fun.
Usually, I buy potted up greenery planters, instead, I took a walk in the forest and plucked some pine and cedar branches. Daisy helped. Can you see her in the 2nd photo?! She was reluctant to come up. This is a new tree that has fallen. Happy girl.



 I found that most of the thick pine branches are at the top, where the sun shines. You can buy branches, but I found enough that it is green.

The tree was a challenge. It's on a timer that goes on at dusk and stays lit for 4 hours.

The water fountain looks better with lights. It's a large, dark backyard. The turtle helmet is on top, weighing down the plastic. I can see the lights from my bedroom, while reading in bed. It's lovely!


  The birds have been busy.

What a busy day –a couple near misses, too!

Yes, off we went. It is a 35 minute drive to visit our dentist. Off we went. for our 11:00 a.m. appointments. I was eagerly hoping to see a Snowy owl, like all the rest of the world, and had my zoom lens all hooked up, heavy in my lap. Several people have seen them, one along highway #7, where we were driving, and one in Perth, too.
No owls. Again. Sigh.

About to turn into Carleton Place, to turn left and drive north up highway 29 off of highway #7, the car in front had an issue. S/he couldn't make our turn. We sat and waited behind the car in front of us.
There was a car blocking the northbound lane. Some dippy driver was sitting BESIDE a left turning car (black car), in the correct lane, trying to make a left turn.
We had to sit and wait for the light. Funnily enough, there was an OPP SUV that stopped to talk to her, wondering what the heck she was doing. You can't really see the white car in the first photo, but in the 2nd photo, she does a quickie reverse to get behind the properly turning black car.



 We made it to the dentist.

Quite a snowy day! On the way home driving west to home along Highway #7, another yahoo.

Just before I took the first photo, this guy veered into the oncoming lane, checking to see why they were going so slowly. Of course, the guy with the trailer was slowing down to turn. Heaven forbid red car dude would have to do less than the 120km he'd been doing when he passed us, on a double-yellow line, 5 minutes ago. 

Red car dude speeds up, about to pass the truck in the left turn lane a few metres later, despite the fact that there was a clearly marked passing lane 500m further west. He's tailing the truck. He ran out of a turn lane, or he would have passed him. 

We arrive at the passing lane, which we find frequently all along highway #7, and red care dude speeds along. Another car passes us, the white car, doing 90km in an 80. Two minutes later, doing 90km/hour, we spotted him turning right. He lives in the area, methinks, and was risking our lives showing off. 

Finally, we made it back to Perth, where I had my hair cut, we had lunch at the pub, and we took a deep breath.

Christmas is coming!

 We made it home, and I took the cats out for walkies. Sady waited in the window, as she doesn't like the other cats. It was nice stress release after our big drive!
