Flooding in Calgary June 21, 2013

The news has been full of the incredible flooding this year. Alberta has shallow rivers, not very wide. You can wade across it in the summer, but it is rising up to the bridges.
Hubby lived in downtown Calgary, in the block below. It is 6 blocks and uphill from the river. There are lots of photos at the Calgary Herald. Hubby lived in a basement, near this spot!

Then there is flooding on some farmer's fields, caused by the recent rain, and RVCA keeping the water high enough for boats. A conflict has ensued. (Note: 'sue' is involved!)

Flooding in Fort McMurray:
Lots of flooding there, with the gym floor under quite some water.
Fort McMurray, once named McMurray, is an urban service area in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in Alberta, Canada.

Here is some good info, from the city of Ottawa, about flooding with sewers.

Manitoba Floods April 21, 2011

We are learning about floods, too.

Dr. Gordon Giesbrecht, associate dean (research), Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management, is better known as "Professor Popsicle." He is a world expert on cold-water survival and safety. On Monday, April 18, 2011, Giesbrecht was at the scene of a tragic accident south of Ste. Agathe, Manitoba, where a man lost his life last week while attempting to drive across a flooded roadway. Giesbrecht worked with the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team filming a demonstration video on the perils of driving onto a flooded road or highway. A car was pushed onto the flooded highway while media watched the current take it and sink in about four metres of freezing cold water, all within two minutes. Had anyone been in the car, it would have been fatal. The video shows the initial entry of the car into the water, and a few comments from Giesbrecht.

Australian flash floods on YouTube

Here is a video on YouTube getting a lot of coverage... You won't believe it! I can tell, from my Victim Service Training, that their laughter is nervous laughter. This is a typical response in such situations. The comment on YouTube range from crazy to positive. It is a scary situation.

They wrote:

Amazing footage of East Creek near Chalk Drive / Chalk Lane rising and washing away lots of cars during Flash Flood in Toowoomba on Monday 10 January 2011. This is some of the best footage I have seen of the Flood and was taken from the second floor of our office which backs onto Chalk Lane.

It shows just how fast the creek turned into a torrent and quickly flooded Chalk Drive and Chalk Lane.

I also got some video of where the creek crosses Neil Street and some video of the aftermath and the huge amount of cars damaged and piled on top of one another in the Chalk Drive car park.

With the incredible exposure that my video is receiving all over the internet and media worldwide I would like to encourage you to donate to the relief appeals.
