Deer family and fundraisers

I keep saying it, but soon it'll be the last of the deer. They disperse in summer.

They lay down, eyes and ears peeled for predators while chewing their cud.

The cats and I need morning entertainment. Normally they fight outside the door. I try to let one of them inside the bathroom while I do my ablutions. It occurred to me to put the ribbon under the door. This was Cinnamon's turn. Nutmeg was outside the door.

We've had a pair of crows. I peeked out the window, and they flew off.

Next, along comes a single turkey tom. The fawn found the creature interesting.

In news, the 🇨🇦 Canadian flight attendant who was ejected from the Jazz plane in that horrific incident at 🇺🇸 LaGuardia is facing a long journey back to health. According to her fundraiser, she flew 100m in the air. There are lots of surgeries, and she is still in a New York hospital. It is going to cost a fortune to get her all the surgeries and rehab she will need. It's beyond me why someone else isn't paying for this. It would be covered with universal healthcare in Canada.

AV Brief

While I am at it. Our blog friend, Scary Mary, has bad news about her daughter and her health issues. A family friend is doing a fundraiser: GoFundMe Link. Not only that, but Mary herself had a health  episode: Apartment Life #413. I feel so badly for all those going though trauma.

Fall clean up

🍁Fall Chores

Somebody, with his bad back, is finding indoor work. Spring Fall cleaning the bathroom cupboard. He took expired drugs to the pharmacy. Old age is complicated, and between backs, knees, arthritis, and eye issues, we are holding our own!

I have a lot of eaves to clean out. I took a shot at the house, the maple in front just fills the eaves over the garage. It went well. I took my time, dressed for it, as it was chilly. The Catalpa tree has just about lost leaves. I climbed up the ladder.

The Catalpa tree leaves are huge, and just plaster the ground.

This is a view we only see in the cold season. It is out the bathroom window. We are having more branches taken down on Monday. The highway is beyond the trees and the traffic noise is not a baffled by the leaves.

Next job will be the shed. This was a frosty morning. That's two mild frosts!

The skies are wonderful in the fall!

This is the lowest roof we have. It's easy to get up there. I just have to wait for the maple to leave its burden

The maple tree is done, the catalpa trees still holds its leaves. I did all these eaves yesterday in the sun.

I took some quick photos during the day. The horse chestnut leaves kept dropping. I'm not sure if the video demonstrates this!

I've done the driveway several times. They blow all the way along the 100m.

I had a new respite client on Thursday. It was a lovely visit. It is wonderful being useful, and getting out of the house. As I arrived home, there were two deer munching on the grass. They hung around until after dinner.

walkies, cats,

I belong to an owling group on Facebook. They are most supportive, to me. Someone posted a photo of an owl, a little fuzzy, and obviously a quick shoot. Apparently, she was dissed most miserably by a few arses. The group moderator posted a lovely note telling the group this was not acceptable, and asking group members to post awful owl photos to show that even the most adept can have a bad photo.

This is my example of an unsuccessful owl video! (May 2016)

So, says Bob, go out at dusk and listen for the Barred owl chicks. I heard one chick screaming for food. I heard something else in the forest. Quietly, I prayed it was a deer. I watched, with baited breath. When Junior Bear began to smell me, and look for me (in the trees, you'll note), then cross the wetland, I backed up and startled him.

In the meantime, I thought I'd best post these before we lose ALL our snow. I love the trails through the trees. The critters have habits. The fox and the coyote have been trailing the turkeys across the meadow, and across the frozen frog pond.
I've moved the trailcam. It's on a tree, in the second photo, below.

We continue to wrestle with Daisy. Popping her into the crate seems to alleviate night time stress.

Since I've been dosing her with meds (Nov.), she's not sat with me in my chair. Finally, yesterday, Friday, Dec. 14th, she deigned to sit with me, again. JB brought me a piece of toast, in my chair, in order not to disturb her. She's been switched from amitriptyline to fluoxetine (Prozac for cats).

Daisy likes to help JB either shave, or clean the bathroom. This morning he was cleaning it, and she was supervising. He is so patient.

Today, is Annabelle's 6th birthday. Beyond the fact that she is a rescue cat, found in a Lanark County barn, homeless, the vet assigned her a birthday. More on that tomorrow, as there are surprises planned!

We have some new windows - it was time

Before: the wood was weary.

The handle had broken on the kitchen window. The outside of the windows were peeling paint, as the previous owners must have used the wrong paint to repaint it.

Weary windows!
Notice the centre post.

This new vinyl will last a long time. Our windows, at the time - 30 years ago, were top of the line. They've learned so much more about insulation, caulking, and materials these days. It was great because they had a cancellation and a 1-day window of opportunity! 'Scuse the pun!
The salesman phoned at 7:30 a.m., saying our window were in, someone else's were not, could they come over?

"Sure," I said. It's only getting colder, and keeping the windows open ,whilst replacing them in December, wasn't a great thing to anticipate.

The bugs are mostly gone, except for the dreaded Asian Lady beetles. I caught 24 ladybugs, one beetle and 2 flies indoors.

The cats had various reactions. Daisy was terribly curious, but fearful of the strangers and the banging. Daisy didn't like the noise, but she was better than she had been with other renos. cc

Bug sucker, AKA pooter!
Caught 27 bgs!

Sadie, I found, didn't much care. Sadie is the reno queenYou can see her in the video! The fire hubby made in the basement was a huge draw. She usually sits on the heater in the morning, anyway. She's very sick with an awful cold! Wheezing and sneezing. Poor girl.

Our bathroom was renovated, before our time.
It used to be half its size. The original owner, Mrs. Love, insisted that she have a large walk-in closet. It had a window, fortunately. When they cut off the closet, to extend the bathroom, the new, large bathroom now had two windows. We have a tub and a separate shower, with a seat in it.

The new kitchen window flips out at the bottom, it's a little more expensive, but it gives a good view of the forest. And it doesn't have a centre frame, which makes it look larger, a great view while doing dishes.

During

Adam did a fine job, cleaning up after himself very nicely. I wonder if his wife knows he hang out of the windows?!
Somebody in our house has to paint the trim. That would be me. I did the bathroom and kitchen windows, but they need a further coat. I wiped myself out doing that. My energy levels are way down with this virus. One must pace oneself at my age!

Before, During and After

You can see how the old kitchen window
has a large piece down the middle.
