Mail delivery has stopped!

Things are interesting around here. This is a  Community Mailbox Unit (CMU)! Canada Post originally began stopping home delivery, and new developments have to have these installed for customers.

We get our mail in our mailbox. Well, not now! There are issues, as Canada Post workers are on strike. The issue is, as I'm sure you're aware, is that people just aren't getting the mail they used to. The question is, is it a required service, or is it outdated? They are losing so much money, something has to change.

I like crossing the road to grab our mail!

My problem is that I pay all our bills on my laptop, which requires my thumbprint to open it. Joe keeps the paper bills, and files them. If anything happened to me... ???

Back to our little world: someone managed to snag two mice friends on the same day! They thrive in the field.

The skies have been lovely.

I got silly, and went at my hair. My arctic white is now purple. So is my pillow case! It washes out, however.

In the meantime, we had a massive dump of rain. It's a relief to see it. It poured much of the day.

I feel sorry for our government workers, they are not being paid due to the shutdown. I have all my bills paid on auto pay.

Take care, have a great day!

Your fun new hair looks good. What does the family think? Love the gorgeous trees. Our mail system here is horrible. You never know when you mail something if it's going to get to the place you are sending it too. It could, it may not!! It could take a week or it could take a month... horrible.

Mail is a problem. I don’t know how it can be solved.

Cool shots of the mouse catcher! You look a bit purple today, in your crown anyway. Mail is such a under-rated expectation in society these days. Mine is actually without much communication from anyone personal anymore. E-mails and bills are all on line, as well as payments. Going paper-less was a good idea, but several businesses haven't caught the message effectively, and send both paper and e-mail statements. I don't have my bank connected to any but my laptop, with password. The iPad and phone don't do banking.

The only mail we get is a weekly local newspaper and an occasional magazine. (Most of them have gone to 6 issues a year anyway). I can still pick up my paper at the corner store, thank goodness.
That was a lovely rain yesterday!

Wow, I cannot imagine not getting our rural mail. Though, I am with you on a few things as in auto pay for our electric and phone.
I can go online and pay for the other few bills we have.

Your autumn colors are incredible and ours are quite dull. However, we are enjoying the temps.

My neighbor's cat is catching mice or voles and parading them past my kitchen window in the evenings.

As for the thumbprint??? Eeeks!

You are getting lovely colour in the trees.
The mail is a mess. We still get paper bills for the reason that you mentioned and then pay them on-line.

I'm glad you got so much rain. Yay! I'm sorry to hear about the postal service. I was just thinking I need to share my bank info (what's paid online, etc) with Rick. Because you never know. On a completely unrelated note, yesterday Rick and I were talking and he said how he had the best day with Joe when he came by, just hanging out, seeing the town and area and all. Made me smile. New friends.

The Breach newsletter contains an article about how the feds are trying to hand over Canada Post to private companies that will somehow make a lot of $ off it. This is a perspective I never considered, considering Canada Post itself can't keep afloat. Nevertheless it's an interesting article and worth a look.

The postal system needs to be overhauled. We get daily delivery to our door, and most of it is flyers that go directly to recycle. The occasional card comes, and magazines. For bills and such we use the computer. Community boxes are a great idea and delivery to them doesn't need to be every day.

Dow here, I think our post will be down to 2 days a week, rural deliveries might be altered too. When I was a child, we had bread delivered, mail, and the highlight of each week for my Mum, The NZ Listener. That was when I started to have an addictive love of cryptic crosswords.!!!But now, you can select a mail delivery of the same, or get a digital one . My Mum would be so amazed at all the changes, from her life to mine and now to our grandies.

We live way in the back of beyond and for all the almost 30 years we have lived here, the mailperson has chugged up the (dirt) road, rain, snow or whatever, and put our mail, the bills, flyers and necessary postings from insurance, etc, into the box at the foot of our laneway. Until this year when we have had one big hiatus and now, a second.
I do not know how others with communal stops or a mail slot in their urban front door feel about this. I feel cut off and sad. And a bit afraid. Just before the latest cutoff, my car insurance info and bill for the upcoming year was thumped into our box. I can pay it on line, but the changes in the policy were a lot easier to deal with in writing in a package.
Yes, we send less mail than we used to. Even greeting cards are now 'on line'. But for me and, I suspect, a lot of rural others, the mail is a necessary service. I believe the government should treat it as such.
