Cinnamon and Nutmeg

A big change. Both kittens came out to the living room. They see their bedroom as a safe sanctuary.
Smaller, female Nutmeg on the left.

Annabelle doesn't want to play. She just wants to taste that rich, wonderful-smelling kitten food. Teeny Nutmeg guards her food bowl. Nutmeg has a terrific growl. That kitten food beats Annie's diet food any day.

We went out and I left the kidlets some kitten food. I was having trouble getting them down to the bedroom. Annie kept following, despite having just fed her in the kitchen. I gave up and set the dishes on the floor.

Cinnamon has been bird watching.

Wild turkeys and cats

We didn't have any snow in the beginning of the week. Hooper, Annie and I put up our tree.

Last year, Daisy electrocuted herself on our wee tree. It's outside as a permanent display.

We had a touch of snow Thursday.

Then, we woke to a massive dump of snow. There weren't many critters out and about. I haven't even bothered to go down and grab the SD Cards from the trailcams.
Hooper launched himself into the snow on the deck. He thought it was wonderful.

We're still separating Hooper and Daisy. Her meds aren't working and I am bereft. Hooper is happier, as we've been putting Daisy in Time Out in a dog crate. He feels safer. It's been so cold (-12 C.) in the mornings, and they haven't been inclined to go outdoors.

Then, we went out on the front deck. Hubby started the snow blower and Hooper didn't like that.

We had about 18 cm, 7" of snow. These poor turkeys were having issues!

This is so cute

Cardinal, bullfrog, deermouse, grackles, Annie, raccoons

This cardinal is a juvenile. Papa continues to feed it, although it is perfectly capable, albeit shy, at the feeder. This is so much fun to watch.

A bullfrog moved in for a couple of days. The weather was suddenly cold and he disappeared. I don't know if I scared him and he took off, or if he is under the water! I am hoping I scared him, as my wee pond doesn't do well in winter over freeze/thaws. In fact, I have to bring the fish in soon. Perhaps today.

I definitely scared off this deermouse. They tend to try to make a nest in this cupboard. I have my garden and pond tools in here. There is a wasp nest in here, too.

The birds are gathering in flocks. They are amazing. Since I took this video, they have flown south. Gone for winter.

JB and I heard a huge bang in the evening. Daisy hopped up, Annabelle began growling. I figured out what it was! They came back the next day, and I heard another bang. I realized I'd locked it in the garage, again!

Critters galore, even creepy crawlies!

We were watching TV, Hooper on my lap. He's a good snuggle puss.

Later, I noticed a speck on my shoulder – it was moving. It is highly unusual to have ticks in February, but it's been so mild.

I keep track of the ticks, curiosity, as well as statistics! I loved math...

The flags I made on a dull late winter day last year. They keep the birds away from the window. They made a delightful shadow in the video (below).

What a boy! Hooper (7 mos.) likes to sit up above the dignified Miss Annie (age 5) and give her a hard time.  It was so nice to see the sun.

Here they are in action, if you are so inclined!

We had ice rain!

The sidewalk is good, the driveway not so much. We anticipate some warm temperatures today, above zero, and sunshine. That will clear things up.
A yearling was skating along the driveway yesterday morning, slide like Bambi, and headed for the snow bank. There is a layer of ice on top of 29 cm of snow.
I wore my snazzy new boots, with the pics. Chipped away on the sidewalk. It melted in yesterday's sun.
I need to clean my lens, methinks!!!

Annie helped me take photos.

We have a new kitten!

We do. As well as a new furnace. Whew! Our wood insert barely kept up. Monday, we were taking it easy. Saturday, we looked at some kittens, Daisy needed a buddy. That's what I thought.
Daisy is bored silly. Her mice friends are asleep.
We played with the propane bill for a time. I thought she could use a playmate. It might take the pressure off lovely Annabelle, who doesn't know how to play with other cats.

We were on our way home. Next, we went to the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) rescue kittens in a pet store in Carleton Place. Morris (5 mos.) was up top. His brother left and he was lonely. Below him, in the cage, were two who might be related to Daisy. That's where we rescued her from. We'd think about it.

Then, back home to watch curling. On-line, LAWS was showing this little guy. He'd been 5 weeks in Perth. I told hubby about him. He said, "Do you want to go in and see him?" We taped the rest of the curling.
He was about to be taken back to the LAWS location, as they'd given up, his brother just adopted.
Quick decision. He'd been put in isolation, as he has a cold, and runny eyes, which is common as they manage the new bacteria and germs in a new place. (Annabelle had this for a few weeks. She's fine now.)

Meet Hank Jr., age 4 months (Aug., 2017) I'm still thinking on his name. (Any suggestions?) He's precious. He was from the Lanark Animal Welfare Society and sat for 5 weeks at Pet Value in Perth. He has a cold, he's sneezing, his eyes are running, and he is a sleepy boy.

This is his first evening, when he thought he'd explore some.

Sunday

He liked the curling.

Finally, another male in the house!
The goldfish plant caught his eye.

He is fascinated with big sister, Annabelle. I put wet food down for both. Annie has the diet stuff, Hank has the stress food  (Vet food), as he's a bit fragile. After I snapped this photo, Hank thought that Annie's food smelled a bit better, he approached her and she just glared at him. He hissed back, and went back to his own food. They are doing the dance. She isn't threatened.

Annie sleeps on this pillow, beside the stairs. The hot air rises from the downstairs fireplace. It's a fairly recent thing. Hank loves to just watch her.

Saturday night, Daisy slept on top of beside me, Hank in the chair in the living room, and Annie on her pillow. Sunday night, Daisy and Hank slept in the basement. Monday night, as well.

Monday

As I sat, with Hank on top of me, the pileated woodpecker chose to visit, again. You can hear Hank purring!

Hank was interested in Angry Birds!
We have a snow storm on the way. We enjoyed the sun while we could. I was happy to let the furnace do its thing. He sat and watched the birds. He is relaxed and happy. He and Annabelle has a nose kiss. Daisy, I think, will come around.

Hank had a slight limp Sunday morning. Today, Tuesday, it's nearly gone. He has an appointment with the vet next week. His cold is much less. There is 5" of snow outside. We'll have a bit of work to do in order to clear up, with more on the way.
