Eastern Gray Squirrel (black morph) AKA #75

We had some snow yesterday. I've been watching from the front window. I must go and put out the garbage, though. I'll shovel later! The temperature dropped over the weekend.

In the meantime...

As many of you know, we released a rehabbed squirrel this past year. He was given a case number: #75, so we've kept that name. Even with the zoom lens and the tripod, I'm having issues focusing!

We saw him infrequently during summer. These days, he is hanging out closer and closer to his nest box. I watched him run to the end of the tree branch and leap to the next tree No photo, as I wasn't prepared! This is our broad-winged hawk checking out the nest box in the summer.

This is a bit of info about our Eastern Gray Squirrel (black morph).

I spotted one of them on the railing.

It seems that #75 has a friend. The two of them were running up and down the horse chestnut tree.

I was out fetching trailcam cards, and spotted #75.2 up in the trees near the meadow. These are the Five Sisters, although one tree has crashed to the ground in old age. I know another black morph squirrel nested in the saw-whet nest box. That's where it may have come from.

Glad it has a friend although I can’t seem to play the video.

I must wonder if two morph black squirrels will have black offspring. That's so cute that there are two of them!

I love that Seventy Five decided Crumbly Acres was a good place to stay! Won't it be fun if a new generation appears in the spring?!! YAM xx

SNOW! That's exciting. #75 is cute, I'm glad he stuck around.

The squirrels are looking very chubby this year so it may be a cold winter.

Looks like #75 is successfully rehabbed into his neighborhood. There's gotta be a girlfriend in there somewhere. Nice work getting him back to nature. Linda in Kansas

We usually rarely see a squirrel in our yard, but this past winter a huge red squirrel found the bird feeders and made for some entertainment. This fall it appeared with a companion. I've been surprised that they stick around, what with our resident neutered barn cat and the two visiting tomcats, but ... here they are, so far.

I love the black squirrels -- they're just so pretty and especially when it snows!

I woke up to heavy rain this morning!
Grey squirrels visit the garden but I've never seen a black squirrel.

May the week ahead go well for you.

All the best Jan

You have some fine pictures. We have both the gray and black variety here; JG feeds them corn and they love it. I would think they would need a lot of liquid with it, but we do not see them drinking from the fountain or the little stream in our front.
