I am a senior. I don't know when that happened. It seems others should be aware. Apparently, others must look after me, to ensure I stay "healthy, active and engaged!" I can't believe how people talk about us as if we aren't in the room.
OK, rant over! Here I am being engaged in looking at nature. Peony, Allium with a Swallowtail, and the first roses.

It is incredibly condescending to talk about us as if we are not there isn't it?
Our weather boffins have a loose relationship with the truth too.
We become Seniors and inside we feel no different, but on the outside we can be seen differently.
It is a fact that some seniors do need more looking after than others, but when you don't feel aged or senior-ish, it feels like people make assumptions.
Staying engaged with others and active are two very important things for good health at any age. But that is my opinion.

I still am surprised when they talk about an elderly woman on the news and she turns out to be 65 years old!
We have yet to see any significant rain after all the warnings.
We are seniors together and we understand the truth of it in a way that younger people do not. So let them take care of us and be tolerant. Someday they will understand. Thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us. Jenn aloha

Hmmm. I'm glad those who need help staying active and engaged get it, but seriously, most of us are managing without help. So far, anyway...

So I'm going out to water plants again tonight, after yet another vanished storm. Sorry that some wild winds and rain have hit others in the eastern US...and those further west are dealing with heat already. Oh it's interesting that you used the word engaged...a second time I've heard it for today. I was asked how I was doing during chair yoga, and I simply said, "I'm here and I'm engaged." Which was how the rest of the morning went. Love finding a hare was the mystery critter on the walkway. I was talking with our apartment manager this morning about the influx of seniors to our area...a Silver Tide I think they call it. But when I mentioned how I go to several exercise classes and have these really good cheap lunches at the Senior Center, she admitted that all the rest of the residents here don't go. I have talked 2 younger (62 and 65 years) friends into coming to lunches and exercise. There is a van that's handicap accessible (a lift) that goes around and picks up about 4-5 people already. So 70 some elders just are hermits apparently (there are at least that many apartments here.) I seldom see any neighbors on the walks to my car, the trash bins, or the mail box. Invisible elders I guess, except for a half dozen who sit in rockers on the porch at the club house. If the weather's good. Yet I admit I'm not outside that much for anyone to see me either! In a way it's a nice quiet neighborhood, but on the other hand. (oops, better get off my soap box.)
