Rideau Lakes Cycling Tour

They had a big bike tour on the weekend. The Rideau Lakes Cycling Tour. The routes go from Ottawa, through the nearby town of Perth, on to Kingston. You can go on a 100km or 200km tour. What bothers me are the fanatics who roar through town.

I wrote an email to mention how badly some people behaved. They improved it: Rideau Lakes Cycle Tour 2022, but in 2016: Ottawa Bicycle Club 45th Annual Rideau Lake Cycle, they were crazy. It's a small, old town and cyclists tend to get lost. We just stayed out of town this year. They are in a rush and I fail to see how this would help tourism, for drivers to wrestle with people hell bent on improving their times.

Happily, we weren't on the tour this year. They came from Ottawa (on the far right in the screen grab) dipsy doodle through town and head west-ish to Westport and Kingston.

What is really funny is that I was out front watering, or something, and heard people talking. That is weird, as we are 100m from the highway. It's a bit scary for me.

I toodled on out to the road, and found some cyclists. They weren't exactly lost, they were on their way into Perth, but they weren't supposed to be taking this route. They have rest stops and support personnel on the actual route! I did laugh.

Our driveway is 100m long. So we have a big FRONT yard. I transplanted this lilac sapling, as it was growing in a bad place.

  1. ...I love the daisies against the roughed fence.

  2. I can't believe bikes are touring at speed with cars still on the same roads...but that's what it sounds like. Geese...not a good situation.

  3. You've awakened a dim memory of coming across some of these cyclists many years ago, but I forget precisely where we were -- somewhere west of CP to be sure.

  4. I'll have to tell Rick about the cycling tour! I can see why it would be a challenge in town.

  5. I can imagine in your vast space, it would be weird to hear people. So they don't close roads or anything? It does seem scary.

  6. We have some short bicycle races here, and the road closures are never fun.

It can be hard to manage such a large front yard. That lilac looks like it's in a good spot now

  8. There is something similar in Taupo, and we got caught up in the riders and runners one year!!! Your garden is so spring like, growth must be leaping along.

  9. I always marvel at all your space. We are very crowded here on Oahu which is the main island in Hawaii.

  10. I love that you have a big buffer between you and that crazy highway! Aloha dear!

  11. Bicyclists are not quite as self obsessed as long distance runners but they are still full of themselves.

  12. The adrenalin is up and they are pumped. Sometimes they are just focused on the competition of the moment.

  13. I love the wild look in your garden. And the spaciousness.
