I am. For sure. I taught gr. 5 for many years, from JK to gr. 8 all told. I am not smarter than Fred Groundhog, though.
What did I expect? Petunias are the flower of choice! This is a wooden planter, and Fred can climb. The flowers have been eaten, including the pansies. I put an upside down tomato cage, wrapped in chicken wire. Weighed down by rocks! Fingers crossed. I have to laugh. They provide much entertainment.
I am hoping I've barricaded my zucchini plant. Fred has nibbled 3 blossoms. Don't tell them, but there is another plant on the other side of the sidewalk. Shhhhh!
I have an antique school bell. I managed to refit it with a new stand. It's an old bed post. Perfect size to fit into the cement brick stand. I have a chain on it! The grandies used to ring it.

Outfitting wildlife is an ever-changing game! We jyst put a second, low fence around my vegetable garden, 2 feet from the taller electric fence. Supposedly deer won't step over, and can't jump both. We shall see! So far Mr. Blowy, the air dancer, has been most successful.
ReplyDelete*outwitting!
ReplyDeleteNice to see the waxwing and to listen to the background chatter.
ReplyDeleteIt really is beautiful in your world. I just adored the video of the Four Freds. I'm sorry they are devouring your plants but you seem in reasonably good form about it. I guess you have to laugh or you'd cry and laughing is more fun. Love that old bell too. What a wonderful post today! (Rick's off again -- five nights, six days. Wish him well!)
ReplyDeleteBirdsong is so uplifting. Fred! I'm only smarter than a 5th grader some days. lol
ReplyDeleteI love the look of Cedar Waxwings but haven't seen one in years.
ReplyDeleteSo love the sights and sounds of your yard. I heard a Robin the other day and it had been so long I forgot what a lovely song. The waxwings are so handsome.
