Daffodils and Osprey

Despite it being 'Spring' we had a cold spell. That said, the Forsythia is in bloom. It is in front of an evergreen, which helps one see it.

My daffodils are thriving.

The daffodil garden out back:

This patch has had a shock, as it is 0℃ this morning. They are drooping!

I did some work. Every year I promise myself I will research whether one has to remove last year's growth on the ornamental grasses. I figured I'd just get rid of them. That way the new growth will get some sun.

They are terribly sharp, the stems, and you can get 'paper cuts' from them. I left them until the next day. Pacing myself. It was colder, and long sleeves and gloves weren't too hot. Soon the mosquitoes and black flies will be out. I preferred getting this done now.

The ospreys migrate from our territory. They eat fish and snakes, so winter isn't a good time for them when the bodies of water freeze over.
This one visited our front yard one summer for some reason. Maybe trying out its wings. It pooped and flew off.

We've quite a few human-built nests around the area as we reintroduced them. DDT did a number on their populations. Oh, humans, such harm we do.

This is what precipitated my post, a fly by of one osprey.

The bald eagles have returned to nest near my place. It is such a thrill to see them.

Happy to see Spring has shown up in your area...Jenn..we woke up to temps down in the low 50's around here. This is very unusual. I can imagine how cool it might have gotten in your area. The Osprey's are so pretty. We had ONE at the farm last year and we so enjoyed watching it. It nested on top of one of the irrigation poles, which I thought was very odd. Have a happy Friday..

I love forsythia but have seen remarkably little of it this year. I wonder if it's our cool weather or if I've just been in the wrong places at the wrong time.

It is good to see the Osprey population increasing again.

And it looks like he's off for bringing the dinner home...if the still photo is any sign. Couldn't see the fish in the video, so perhaps that was another occasion. I do love eagles and ospreys. Such keen-eyed fishermen they are!

The Daffodils and Forsythia are just at their best right now, though it's a cold day here today. Great pictures of the Osprey!

I've never seen an osprey in person, how cool to be able to see them. I love the daffodils.

Gotta get a camera aimed into the nest! Nope, don't do it yourself! Maybe a drone, but the big birds might fight with it. Being on the edge of suburbia, we see lots of falcons playing with the wind. Linda in Kansas

The scream o f the osprey really gets your attention. I like watching them and waiting for them to dive.

I miss my daffodils. Yours are stunning. The osprey are beautiful. Too bad DDT killed so many of them in the past. Happy May Day, Jenn.

I remember them spraying DDT when I was growing up in the sugar plantation camp in Hawaii. It was like a cloud in the air and the kids would sometimes run after that DDT cloud. One of my high school friends died of cancer. She thought it might have been because of that DDT spray.
