๐ผ We arrived home from Ottawa, the roads were now cleared. I guess the cats didn't miss us much. I thought they looked sweet and innocent when I saw them in the office.
The trailcam reveals the action.
Sometimes they bed down in our backyard. This is a fawn in Feb., 2019.
๐ ๐ I think of the First Responders, out there in the cold doing their best to rescue people, and get them help or to hospital. We laud them. What a calling it is. The storm on Saturday was awful for driving.
On the way home from Ottawa there was a car incident. A car went into the railing๐น.
๐ฃ On the way into Ottawa, we spotted people ice fishing. It's a bit worrisome as there were two separate ice fishing incidents in Ontario. One man died in Latchford, the other man rescued. Another incident, in South Frontenac on Dog Lake a pair were rescued.
Death on Roadway Black Ice
It was a terrible weekend for incidents. When we were in Ottawa, I had a text that our power was out at home. Later we found out what it was.
It was a very sad incident. Matthew Bigras was in his truck was taking his 4-wheeler home. He skidded on black ice on highway #7 and hit a stationary police SUV cruiser. (This was the afternoon we drove into Ottawa.) I took Perth Rd. #10 into the city, and I am happy I did. The police officer went to hospital. On a post, a mother spoke of losing her infant in a similar situation on highway 7. Photo by Dennis Papa on FB.
The mother is doing a Go Fund Me in order to bury him. The father (Matt) won't be able to work for a while. Chastity Tharp, the mother wrote:
"Matt is stable however he has a broken leg, a crushed pelvis and a punctured spleen. As for Sharon they have brought her to Kingston Hospital and I haven’t gotten any updates."
UPDATE Dec. 20: The third person in the vehicle was Sharon St. Amour. The poor woman is in an induced coma, needing a hip replacement, so her sister says on their Go Fund Me.

First Responders, Police Officers, Nurses, Doctors, I could go on. I have the utmost respect for all of them. They do not have easy jobs.

Love the cats' video... and yay for those who have to deal with the mess we get ourselves into... YAM xx
Well, first, I'm grateful you two are OK and made the journey to and from safely. But oh, how tragic this accident, how big the loss. Indeed, that family needs all the heart-love it can get.
Hello,
Love the cute deer photo. I wish people would slow down, they have no idea they could be driving on the black ice.
Take care, have a wonderful day!
Prayers for all involved in this accident. So sad and sad as well about the ice fishing accidents. Those First responders are to be commended for their dedication to this dangerous job. Wonderful how God provides for the deer and the other animals in the cold. Blessings Jenn.
It’s all so sad.
Awful :(.
I never go out in bad weather. Too afraid to drive. Here in Georgia we don't know how to drive in inclement weather. Such a shame abouit the family in the wreck. I loved the kitty video. I don't think cats even notice we're gone, at least mine never did. I hope you have a great week.
Cats are so cute living in their own universe, until suddenly a hooman in red boots appears! So sad about the icy accidents, and the people involved.
Oh, Jenn, this is so tragic. We know neither the day nor the hour, so you are right to suggest that we hold our loved ones close. At this time of year, I work hard not be complacent when driving - it can all change in a split second.
Right now, we have extensive power outages in our area due to high winds. I have been in town since this morning, looking for coffee shops that have power and Internet service. Our power is out at home and no estimate for when it will be back - I feel for the line crews out working in these high winds!
Thank you for your kind words about First Responders. My oldest is a paramedic and volunteer fire fighter. He actually started his career in Lanark County. He has voluntarily worked every Christmas shift since he qualified. It is a tough life. Long hours, and hard work.
Agree ๐ฏ here's to the first responders
Yikes. I really have no words for this. I was married to a paramedic for the first 14 years of marriage. They do incredible work.
That was a heartbreaker for sure. Ice kills.
In a related vein, our daughter was here yesterday (Wednesday) and salted our porch and walkway, just in case. Hard on the hall matting, but better than a broken bone.
