Almonte is an interesting town! They have filmed lots of Hallmark Christmas movies here. After my haircut Friday, Trip to Carleton Place, we decided to splurge on lunch out.
Barley Mow is a nice spot. Lots of water, a great patio, and interesting food.
I really like the trail built on the old train bridge. The patio overlooks the water.
These baskets are bountiful!
I went in to powder my nose, and spotted this sign, which is fair enough. Everyone is short-staffed.
Some idiot was buzzing the pigeons with a drone. What an uncomfortable experience. Cruelty to animals, as well as those trying to have a nice lunch out. There are herons, pigeons, ducks, etc., that use the river.
"Someone was running a drone, scaring the pigeons on the bridge, and us. The pigeons were flying over head trying to attack the drone. I was really upset. We've been visiting your pub for years. I was really discouraged. This is wildlife harassment. I thought you should be aware."
Obviously, staff are very busy. I was assured it was not the pub flying it. I was pretty sure about that. They are always slammed at lunch. I couldn't see the operator.

From there we took back roads. Lanark Village is a sweet town. I thought this looked like a terrific property for kids. I asked Joe Brian to turn around, to get a better drive-by shooting from my passenger window! This looks like heaven for kids.
We drove along, and I wondered what this crop was, with a safety camera on it and a sturday fence. Hmmmm.

Of course there is road reconstruction everywhere. We weren't in a hurry. This was a really hot day, and we felt badly for the flaggers. Standing all that time, yawning, stretching legs.

We arrived home. MiniFred was up to their usual tricks. I threw out a few leaves of cabbage we weren't going to eat.
That’s a good patio for lunch. Haven’t been there for ages. I want to have lunch at our Gastropub patio, but the sun can really beat down there.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous day out! That does look like a Hallmark town! And beautiful countryside. I'm sad about the drone -- the person who operates it no doubt thinks it's a fun thing, but not at all to traumatize birds in that way.

ReplyDeleteSo sad about the harrassing drone. Wonder if you can contact a wildlife agent. The drone operator must know the birds fly around there frequently. Wonder if the very protected field you saw was a legal pot growing operation? Medicinal of course. Linda in Kansas

ReplyDeleteThe crop in the fenced field is supposed to be marijuana. There are security fixtures all over the place. Re the Lanark Village home with the play structures, the mother also bakes and puts the extra out on a folding table to be purchased on the honour system. Great people. You drove my shopping route to see these things.
ReplyDeleteMinifred! How cute. Drones? I see drones around here all the time. Unless they are standing outside with the controlls, I can never spot them. Some of them can fly quite a ways away from the person controlling it.

You inspired me with your pretty photo the other day, same day as this one I think. I bought a pink top very similar to yours and also got a haircut this morning. Our local drive-thru ice cream joint has a similar sign in its window, and once I think had to remain closed due to an inability to find enough staff.
ReplyDeleteStaffing problems are a problem in government offices too, and result in a lot of inconveniences for those of us who have received letters telling us to do something by a certain date, but then they're aren't reachable by phone when you need clarification. So frustrating. And even more so when the staff don't seem to know what the hell they're doing.
