Barry Beaver's Work (and ours!)

It's been lovely, the return of our migrating birds. The bird songs are so joyful. Off I went for a walk.

The tulips are growing out front.

Down in the forest beside the wetland, another tree is being worked on. Barry started this before winter set in. He had a winter hibernation and is back at it.

Things are quite frozen, but you can see how it freezes at night, then thaws at the edges in the sunshine in daytime.

💐 Spring Chores

Keeping up, there are lots of chores to do. I have stayed indoors for a couple of days. It was cold, and rainy.

I took a photo to remind me. There are plants that need to be moved. The ornamental grasses are being overcast by the growing evergreen on both sides.

I still need to work on replacing this base. I removed the dead wood, and put the Bluebird house on it. Repainting the topper has to wait for warmer (dryer) weather! Joe Brian helped me pop in the rebars that keep it steady.

🕷️ TICKS

In the meantime, the ticks have woken up. They like it above 5 C. We had 22 last year. Our biggest year I gathered 200 off of Daisy.

No good deed goes unpunished. I worked on the flag pole and found one tick on me later. We treated the cats.

The wood frogs are singing for love! This is an amazing sign of spring.

  1. Ticks are sick: in the old bad way not in the new good way. 🥸

  2. Jenn...you amaze me with all of your hard work in all seasons. Ticks? I guess I thought it would be way too cold in your area for ticks. For a good long time (in our area) the fire ants kept the ticks away. Now, a walk through the woods and you are sure to end up with one or two on you.

  4. Sorry to hear that the ticks are back. Barry is pretty aggressive, isn't he? I think between all of you, there is much to be done as the world wakes up from winter!

  7. I love the frogs calling in the spring. I once walked over a rise expecting to see a flock of ducks in a small pond. Not a single one, they were all Wood Frogs calling like mad!

  8. Barry has been busy. The wood frogs were fascinating. It sounds good to be near nature apart from things like ticks.

  9. Barry is a busy beaver! The ticks are awful, I come home after a walk itching just thinking about them. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!

  11. Goodness, Barry is getting a pretty big tree down there. What on earth will he do with it? Can't wait to see the next chapter. Oh yes to the frog chorus!
