Remember Fred?!
It was a heckuva storm. A few days prior, Cinnamon and I went to check out the shed. I stuck a piece of wood in Fred's hole, just so I didn't twist my ankle on it. Fred, konked out for the duration (AKA hibernating since Sept. 13th!), had mice friends visit.

Cinnamon found some sand and rolled around on it!
Mice friend visitors! I love reading the tracks in the snow. They came and went from the shed.
There was 9.65mm rain, with an overnight temperature of -4℃, it froze on everything.
The poor deer tromping through the snow, covered by a half inch of ice. Eventually, the ice melted as the temperatures rose, and the pine trees recovered.
Overnight there was a visitor: Labbit!
I caught her on two cameras...
We watched during the day as the temperature slowly rose. This is the snow, with the ice on top. It was awful walking. I scraped it off where I could.
I worked on the sidewalk. A layer of ice so I scattered some non-salt ('safe for paws and concrete') Joseph Brian had brought home. I used the entire container! But it worked.
At its max, there were 62,923 households without power in southern Ontario. We escaped all that. After that, the winds blew and my light-up gifts were tumbled aside! Then the temperatures rose above zero, and it thawed. Then they fell. It was -12℃ this morning. Sadly, we had another dump of snow, several centimetres. I dare not look yet.
It's just very cold here. Your critters are going through some difficult times with the icy snow.

ReplyDeleteWinter decided to settle in here, too... -3'C overnight and only just reaching to 1'C now (mid-arvo). Nothing like your's of course... YAM xx
Our neighbour cleared the remaining ice off our drive. we certainly weren't up to the task.
ReplyDeleteJust thought I'd check in since I've been pretty much incognito for over a week. I don't have the energy to catch up, but am trying to eek back into the living world.
ReplyDeleteYikes Ice!! It devastates Oklahoma when it happens here.
ReplyDeleteThe historical pic of Fred in the green grass is a stark contrast to the rest of the winter photos
ReplyDeleteI LOVE seeing Labbit's tracks!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is cold. That rabbit is REALLY hopping! I never noticed Cinnamon's striped tail before - I thought she was a raccoon for a second. The cold isn't stopping her one bit.
ReplyDeleteIt has been quite a winter and it just got started.
ReplyDeleteIt is cold here but we do no have snow like you have there.
ReplyDeleteLove the deer image. I wish you all the best in 2026, a happy and healthy New Year. Take care, have a great day!
Lots of rain and all that snow. Looks cold.
ReplyDeleteWe missed almost all of it. You lot got the whole dump, and while some of it is pretty, it looks like pretty awful walking.
ReplyDeleteWe have a red squirrel resident under the front porch. The tracks are adorable.
It is cold 🥶 here in Montreal. We had freezing rain which is bad, I much prefer snow ❄️
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely. Happy New Year to you ❤️ ☺️
Brrr, winter has come there. We've been super warm then today is cold. No where near as cold as you are. Ice storms are the worst.
ReplyDeleteThat is about is miserable as it gets.
ReplyDeleteYou have had some wild weather! Rain, ice, snow, and repeat? Difficult for both man and beast.
