We're melting!

We have the usual suspects at the feeders!

The deer feeders are out. We know our neighbour baits animals to shoot them, running an Outfitter business, all the while ranting about any Canada-wide bans on assault-style weapons. We'd rather nurture them.
We haven't seen anything at them, aside from the Dratted Red Squirrels and Blue Jays!

Until Dec. 17th...after a rain.

Off I went..

I made it down to the frog pond. Things are melting. It smells like spring! Dead leaves, mold, fungus, petrichor.

This tree has tenants, the woodpecker refused to be on camera. I set up the trailcam a while back. No luck. The bark has been peeling off.

The snow is almost gone, the native phragmites are green.

This is a non-mental note. I must clean out this wood duck nest box, once the pond freezes and I can stand on it. Also, the flashing needs to be restapled.

This is the meadow. The moss is thriving.

I am hoping for a white Christmas. We shall see!
I'm working on a felt landscape. It needs work, but it really is play.

Moss is always so pretty this time of the year. Ahhh, enjoy the play with paints!
I never was very good at that but yours looks great!

Now that the deer have found your feeder, they should be regular visitors. What a strange mid-winter thaw, hopefully none of your frogs wake up!

I hope deer come along, like they did last winter.

Alas, the piled plow snow is deep enough already, that it is resisting mightily.

I really like your play. We are having a mild few days but by the weekend we will be melting again. Temperatures of 30C and over are in our forecast for all of next week.

Hello,
I love the deer and Jay. The deer here are hiding from the hunters, I never see them any more. Take care, have a great day!

We don't get a lot of snow so I like seeing it there. Loved the pictures.
