Saturday's Critters

The critters are so much fun to watch. We had our resident doe sitting out on the lawn in the back yard at dusk the other day. Then she proceeded to nibble my serviceberries and hydrangea.

I like birding from the back deck. I've been watching a woodpecker go back and forth between the forest and the pine tree. Obviously feeding hatchlings. Well, July 2nd, they fledged. They twittered and flitted up and down and around the branches. New life!

I don't know if Muskrat is still here. I think our 50mm of rain may have washed them out.

When I do venture down to the frog pond, bug spray is required. I noticed one mushroom on the property. More will grow next month. We must have a million slugs.

The deerflies are horrid, as well as the mosquitos. The sound of the bullfrogs is wonderful!

Butch keeps worrying the Muskrat shelter. Muskrats normally build a little mound in the middle of the wetland. This pair decided to build under the dock. The heavy rains washed some of it out out from under the dock. All the critters are curious, Butch raccoon, a chipmunk, even Cinnamon gave it a sniff when we had walkies the other day.

The buck appeared the other day, his antlers covered in that rich velvet. I caught him on two cameras.

It looked as if he was trying to get away from the bugs. Isn't he impressive! Papa Bear came by, just briefly.

  8. Many changes happen in the system and the critters have to adjust. You do a good job of catching the action.
