Crumbly Acres

The doorbell died! I undid the cover, but what do I know?! It is likely as old as the house ~ 40 years?

If it were a simple thing, i.e., a loose wire, I could have fixed it, but the wiring is pretty bad. I think I replaced the doorbell button years ago, but I am not sure. I tried to strip the wire to wrap it around the screw, but the wiring gave up.

It occurred to me that they must have remote ones, on battery, and they do! Yippee.

The previous owners painted around the old door chime, and the paint came off. I decided to switch out the art, and put the doorbell around the corner.

Before and after!

For some reason, there used to be a wall sconce here around the corner, the previous owners removed it. I had covered it up with wedding photos! It was a perfect place for the door chime.

The old one was so pretty! The new one is sleek and modern.

Ms. Maintenance is done. The deer (doe and fawn) nibbling on my freeze–dried garden approved.

  1. Wonderful tidy house tending there. Love the deer peeking from behind tree and banner. I used to have one of those little doorbells, and have thought of installing one here, because when someone knocks, it takes me a few minutes to get the old bones to the door if I even hear it. That's about when they leave, or knock again. But then again, would they stay longer if there was a door bell? At least I'd hear from far away where maybe a fan is running...

  5. Oh, I'm glad you got it replaced - but I do love the old doorbell, so pretty.

  6. DIY must be in our genes, love that new chime, very smart. I had to reset my iPhone and what a hassle. Hugh's laptop refused to start at the same time, thank goodness for online help. Your snow must be nearly all gone, we have cold and dark mornings now.

  8. I have never had a doorbell, people around here just knock on the screen doors. A few neighbors have doorbells and I've thought about getting one, but never actually even look at them online or in stores.
