We had a debriefing after the bone density test.
- Due to his prescriptions, this makes the bones soft.
- soft osteopenic (last time)
- 'femoral nick' is the hipbone
- soft: -2.5 = osteoparotic "statistically significant decrease"
- Remediation: doing cardio (walking), calcium and Vit. D supplements all ;
- Could improve with weight training, muscles tugging on the skeleton builds bone,
- No cure, as the medications = losing bone strength
- 'Prone to falls' is the outcome of osteoporosis.
Knee
- prepatellar bursitis from falling in June, 2023
- checked his knees, bursitis is improved, could be arthritis
- Sending him for X Rays on his knees to check that
When going out, he should have elastic sleeves around his knees. It helps keeping them stable and prevents falling.
ReplyDeleteSo many breakdowns for some of us. I guess we just keep on appreciating the moments. I trust he carries his phone when he goes on his walks -- just in case.
ReplyDeleteOsteoporosis can be such a dangerous thing, and it's good to see the doctor staying on top of it. I hope he can figure out a way to include weight training. Has he tried yoga?
ReplyDeleteGood luck. And how I hope a safe way to lift weights and improve his bone density can be found.
ReplyDeleteSo some good some bad in the debriefing. I wish they'd give a recording of a debriefing as there is so much to remember and put together.
ReplyDeleteI was able to avert an osteoporosis diagnosis for several years by doing weight bearing exercises. I hope he finds something that will work for him.
ReplyDeleteA lot of things to consider.
