Gramma Camp – March Break 2023

 Friday

Momma and Papa dropped the girls off after school and work on Friday night, while they went to visit people in Picton.

I had volunteer helpers in the kitchen, and we had hamburgers, salad, and pickled beans. Isabelle helped me cook. She likes cooking, she told me.  I set off the smoke detector broiling the meat, as usual. The fan cleared it out.

After dinner Isabelle chose some movies. We watched this one, after debating them.

Saturday

Izzy was up at 7:30, still on school week hours! Grampa asked Isabelle is she wanted to go shopping with him Saturday morning. He explained that he couldn't get my regular triscuits as he couldn't reach them on the shelf. (Izzy is as tall as I am!) She declined.

Grampa went off for his walkies around the arena, after which he shopped. He brought home Smarties and Skittles. I buried them under the oranges in the bowl. Grampa said he had a riddle for them:

"Orange you glad you looked there!"

They found the oranges, but he had to send them back to look under them. The prizes were won.

We vegged out, reading. I suggested we go visit Narrows Lock. We were there last month, and there were geese and swans.

After lunch the adventure was on. We were slowed down by normal rural life! This beautiful farm, 26 acres, is for sale for $1 million

The lakes are still frozen, even more so that in February. The only thing we saw on the lake was this. We took binoculars, but it looked like branches. That was what we went with. When I got home and looked at the zoom photos, I think it is a dead bird.

There was a brisk wind coming off of the lake.

There are three bubblers, keeping the docks safe from ice.

I spotted something in the water. It moved, and ducked. Turns out it was a muskrat finding something to eat, and coming back up to the surface.

A good outing, in the sun, but no birds!

Dinner was tacos, Izzy helped again. She cooked the chicken for me. We were dripping in sauce, and had a grand time. It was Isabelle's turn for a shower. Fresh and lovely, she rejoined us in the living room.

After debating the evening movie, we settled on this one. Izzy said they'd seen Knives Out 2, and liked it. Why not view #1?!

  8. Have smoke detectors become more sensitive. Ours goes off all the time now and it never used to. Maybe we just need to clean the oven!

  10. Brrr!!! I tend to stay in when it's cold outside, but my daughter (who lives in MN) says I'd get used to the cold if I lived there.

Your movie choices sound like fun. I've seen and enjoyed that second one but not the first.

  11. Don't you love it that they are old enough to watch grown up movies and help in the kitchen? I love this. Just love it.
