It's been a quiet time here, other than all our snow storms. I finished off the day by shoveling another 10 cm (4") off front and back decks, and using the snowblower on the driveway. (We've rain on the way!)
We've had a few Facetime chats with our Ottawa kids. They are enjoying the school break. Jos and Izzy were proud to let us know their current heights! Josephine made it clear that she is 5' 5 ¼ " and the ¼ is important, since Isabelle is now 5' 5"!

Wednesday began with more snow, as I reported. The snow plows are doing their best. Friends in Muskoka haven't seen a plow in days, since the crews focus on the main arteries. They've had about 5' of snow in four days.
A friend approached a Hydro worker in Muskoka, to thank them for working so hard. He is from Windsor, working in Muskoka since Dec. 24th. Crews are staying in Orillia, since there is no accommodation closer. They doubt he'll be home for New Year's, as well as missing Christmas. Hydro One updates:
Restoration Update:
Crews have made significant progress and have restored power to over 442,000 customers since the start of the winter storm. We won’t stop until everyone is restored.
By the time I shoveled the back and front, and used the blower on the driveway, I realized it was snowball snow. I was too tired to build a snowman, though! I recycled this photo, below.

ReplyDeleteGood to see your plants. Oh all that snow! just wow! Sorry the elec. people have to work through holidays. Here we had more water problems as a result of over a day below freezing, so we're on Conserve Water Advisory. The old homes and pipes weren't set up for this weather (which thankfully is almost gone, rain due tomorrow). Also vacation homes around here weren't winterized properly.

ReplyDeleteThe diorama, even bookcases filled, and the bed in an alcove, that would be so cosy in real life even if a tad hard to tuck the sheets in. Hydro workers, when I was a child, we were the last farm in Franklin County in South Auckland to get the power back on. Then Mum would cook scrambled eggs and give them breakfast while Dad finished milking the cows.They all wore bright yellow slicker coats back then in the 1950's !!! Years later Hugh gave me a yellow raincoat for my birthday one July, I always called it my " County Council coat". Love the deer, and all that snow, I hope for you the next lot isn't so severe.

ReplyDeleteThe diorama is artful. Love the deer encounters. They are probably feeling quite a bit of stress from the weather. They are eating our shrubs and they disappear all day, probably bedding down to save energy. We did not get snow, just heavy rain and terrible winds that downed trees and cut power to thousands, but we were lucky. Happy New Year!

Our driveway has been rugged because some snow gets compacted by the tractor. Maybe I’ll be able to lift some of that over the next few days.
ReplyDeleteI did a lot of shovelling but we didn't lose power, thank goodness. It was quite a storm at times.
