Saturday Critters

I spotted TWO monarchs at one time. This is a good thing. I also found some eggs, and two teeny monarch caterpillars.

  

I moved the trailcam. First up, blond butch. She's a lactating mom, with a lovely blond colour.

 

This poor doe has an issue with her hip. hippy doe

 

Somebody referred to a trailcam video as a smelfie, as our subjects like to smell and do a selfie! Doe  in the meadow.

 


Crows 🐦

I've lots of sightings and just by watching the nest, I've tracked them. 

I've been watching this great white pine tree, the crows are nesting about 6' from the top. I thought, with a windy day, I might just have a chance to see the nest. Well, no luck. I was out back reading and I could hear the babies screaming in the forest. They have fledged. crow hunting  

 

I've not been able to see mine up in the tree, although the needles are dropping due to the caterpillar infestation. []🍃LDD Invasive Moths🐛 They don't eat the needles, just nip them at the base and then they drop.

Hands down my favorite part of summer is watching baby crows absolutely scream into their parent's face even though they've literally just been fed, the parent rightfully dipping out, and then the kid being like, "Fine, I'll feed myself! Is this food? I don't even know!" pic.twitter.com/34OLm5CDbm

    I've not seen any Monarchs yet. My milkweed is growing nicely for them.

    Smelfie lol...that's a hoot! Lovely post Jenn. We have a big white pine in the front yard and I'm trying to grow a new one from a little transplant. They are lovely trees. We have lots of crows here lately too, maybe I should take a look up in that tree! Sounds like you're feeling better from the last time I visited, so happy about that! :)

    I love your crows and the deer. Makes me want to move to the woods so I could set up some trail cams. Some put them in remote areas of public parks here but they tend to disappear.

    We have a lot of ravens here but I never see young ones. And I love the Monarchs. You've had such good sightings!

    Hi, great post as usual. Today I noticed that the deers hind legs is much longer then the front legs, seems strange to me. I guess they move with jumps much more then ours do.
