The Big Rideau is slowly thawing.
Phoebe is choosing a nest site. They tried the top of the chimes, right outside the back door. I hope they go for the shed, again.

Hooper and I set off for a walk to fetch the trailcam cards. I bought myself a present. She looked a bit cold so I gave her a scarf. She needs a name. Rabbit ballerina sits in her tutu, and gazes at the snowman and the birds that visit.
JB's deer watched us.
Atop the hill, she watched us carefully. Who knows what they deal with in the forest.
Hooper had a moment.
It is slowly thawing. It's been on the cusp of spring. The 1/3 that has melted refreezes overnight.
Our raccoon friends were up and about.
This is an amazing tree. You can see the hole. I put the stick in and it did not hit bottom. I used the snakecam to look inside. The video was pretty crummy. The tree still lives.
The trailcam cards revealed the ice on Thursday.

By Friday, the pond was much melted. You can hear, in the beginning of the video, the wood frogs who are singing for love. Only a few. The hardy ones.

I am surprised that it is so nice this morning. I guess the rain comes later.

ReplyDeleteNo sign of the froggies in my little creek yet. It is raging like a might river these days. Once things calm down and it becomes more like a slowly meandering brook we will see the tadpoles and hear the peepers. I keep a notation in my weather diary of when I first hear them.
