Day trip to Golden Lake & Barry's Bay #1

Seriously. Two+ hours, depending upon the route! Hubby loves his maps, and planned it all out, at least plan A. We had options...

Hubby said it would be the last summer-like day and he wanted to go to Barry's Bay and Golden Lake. We stopped a couple of times in Golden Lake on our way from Muskoka <=> Ottawa. The hills, especially Calabogie, are lovely, living as we do on flat, shallow wetlands in Lanark County. We passed the ski hills.
We saw a buck, and several spots where Momma turkey had her chicks playing in the ditch!
Lots of old barns.

I missed telling him the turn for CR #34, and we had to take the next right, this led us to Kennelly Mountain Rd. and Mount St. Patrick. It was beautiful!

Calabogie... an old bridge and the boat launch.

Simply beautiful. Everywhere South of the border here has been getting a late summer up into the 30s. Here? 15'C tops plus all the usual wet and windy... hey ho. YAM xx

  7. We travelled through that country too this weekend, though east/west, on our way to and from Ottawa.

  8. We don't have wild turkeys around here. When I taught school the fifth grade teacher had a turkey in her "barnyard" of animals behind her classroom. The city kids got to experience farm animals up close and that was a good thing. Many of the inner-city kids never got out of their small urban community. - Margy

  10. Ahh, you were in my country!
When my youngest daughter was a young teen, we would take "trips to Kruken". I would drive, she would navigate, "turn left at the next road", go north, go west. No maps, just on a whim. I saw a lot of the Valley those summers.
