Gray Catbirds dancing in the lilacs

I was out watching the traffic, pulling weeds, earned myself a grass cut (ouchy) and I heard birds in the lilac bushes. All of the lilacs are done for the season. I vaguely remembered seeing these birds here last year, and I began to pay attention.

Sure enough, there were three of them, making an enormous racket. Then, I heard the famous meow sound for which they are named.

  1. Arn't they neat! I also have cat birds nesting here. They especially like the berries on my wild elderberry bushes.

  3. They're handsome birds but rascals when it comes to harming other birds.
