Here is Momma June 1st
Apparently, my slight cough was an irritant! No chick to be seen.

Chick branched this morning, Momma looks tired!
She was very calm, so I crept closer. She looked straight at me, giving me a silent once-over with those deep, dark brown eyes, then suddenly she was napping!

This is a different tree from the tree with the nest cavity. A good sign that it is a healthy chick, able to fly short distances.Back at noon I went, with bug spray on!
I walked around and under Momma. I thought I heard the chick, but it was Momma owl. You can hear her murp in the video. All About Birds tells me this is a 'solicitation call.'Momma owl hoots from Jennifer Jilks on Vimeo.

Wandering in an area of dried wetland, mosquitoes, and poison ivy, I couldn't see the chick at all. Suddenly, I looked up. There it was!
wonderful owl sightings, the ultimate stress reliever!

ReplyDeleteshe's so cute! I hear owls all the time but just never see them.
ReplyDeleteI hear the owls almost every night, but rarely see them. The odd time one goes flapping by the diningroom window. I think it sits in the spruce tree at the corner of the house where it has a good view over the front yard. One time we had a big white owl swoop down and nail an ermine in the back yard. It was huge!
ReplyDeleteYour one of the few fortunate people to be able to watch and owl nest and a owlet fledge.
ReplyDeleteadorable chick. :)
