Cats as mousers...

They are amazing mousers. Thing is, they aren't hungry, two of our four cats could go on diet food.  They bring them in, or onto the lawn, to play with them. It isn't safe if you live in beside a forest or wetland! There is danger in the forest: coyotes, wolf, bear, fox, and they feel safer bringing them home.
Daisy will bring a mouse and pop it in the middle of the lawn, recapturing it as she isn't hungry. Annie, who was a barn cat, brought home a mouse June 22nd, AND June 25th. I played catch-and-release.

The butterfly net works well,
with a long handle I can snag it quickly.
This is where Annie snagged it.
She was still looking there, after I set it free.

  1. Poor little rodents that are menu items for so many predators. If mice are vectors of tape worms, then it's good if our cats only use them as toys.
