What a zoo!

With the pride of ownership comes good stewardship of the land and its animals.

There is Englebert and Frederick, the tree frogs; Shirley and Calico, the goldfish; various deer (12 we've counted): 'the twins', Doh, Ray and Me; rabbit; 32 wild turkeys; a hawk; an osprey, several turkey vultures; a momma bear and her twins (we haven't seen them!); at least one wolf; a fisher; and many birds.

Sady is a happy girl in the outdoors. She took a long time to adjust to the open spaces, despite walking on the frozen lake for ice walkies in Muskoka.

Tigger, one of the twins who visited in winter, who bounced his way through the snow, the late Oliver's wannabe buddy; is back and growing wee antlers.

Hah! I'm eating your sumac buds!

Voracious, it takes a lot of energy to grow antlers, as well as a juvenile body. Tigger and his twin haunt our forest. On this day, he was taking advantage of the sweet sumac leaves. I walked over to him to encourage him to move into the adjacent acreage. No luck. I got right up to him and he went deeper into the spot where I'm trying to grow some trees. Very shallow soil, with clay underneath, I likely will have a problem as the trimmed sumac seems the only thing that would grow.

Batman is growing. He feeds hourly, if not more. At least he goes to sleep in the dark! Now, no one should pick up a baby in the forest. Often the moms leave them in a secure spot to feed. You must watch them for at least a half hour to see if Mom returns.

This wee guy was left behind, and his sibling took off in the night. I decided he couldn't starve.

I've been feeding the little guy. I found an escargot fork works well.

Buster is sharing his wet kitten food with Batman. Batman shares his bed, which reminds me: I've changed the litter box, not the bird bedding. Sigh. 

Buster Brown likes many nooks and crannies, including Batman's nest. Buster is a black short haired cat, with an underlying brown colour.
